rat got some skillz
what would you do if you were buying gardening supplies and picked something up with a snake underneath it?
the though has never crossed my mind to be careful when picking up products at the home depot.
I just stepped back and watched the snake slither off. I found one betweene two bags of composted cow E36 M3.

Maybe there's a whole pack of freakishly strong rats lurking between the isles, getting buff off plant stimulants and chemical fertilizer or something. Scientifically, that doesn't make any sense at all, but then these things often don't.
I was hoping the rat would expire.
Snakes = good.
Rats = disease.

The rat has size. If the snake was large enough to eat a rat that size, the fight would've swayed differently.
Venom would've changed things too.
Appleseed, I have to disagree, I've had pet rats, and I've worked with snakes long enough to get infections from bites, get salmonilla poisioning from not quite washing my hands good enough, and generally just get fet up with their nasty attitudes. My rats on the other hand were, litter box trained, would sit on my shoulder and watch me play video games, would happily sit on my nieces lap and let her pet them. Heck I feel bad, I have a rat terrier who's not much of a ratter because she was raised with rats for the first 1.5yrs of her life and wasn't allowed to chase them. I know they were little plague carriers, but a well cared for rat in my book is a far better pet than a well cared for snake. And yes I like snakes, I even move them out of the road when I come across them, and not run them over like most. Even the venomous ones.....
SillyImportRacer nailed it though. That was one big rat, the snake had the length, but not the girth to be taking on a rat that size. But hey, haven't we all bitten off more than we can chew at one point or another in our lives? That one just came close to costing that snake it's life. We went and pulled the snake out from under the pallet it ran under, put it in a box and took it outside, it was bleeding something fierce, head and right behind the head were all jacked up, and the tail had a good bite or two as well.
Oh yeah, venom only helps when you can bite something. The snake never got a good bite in from what I saw.
Trained pet rats are way cool. Rats and mice that mess with my car deserve to die. I've never had a snake eat my car's insulation.
LOL TRUE! But I have helped tear an interior out to remove a stuck snake before. Pissy Python in tight quarters, sucks!

Ever read Tim McLauren's book "Keeper of the Moon"? Its a good one kinda on the subject
When my wife sat down on the commode of our new home and then looked thru her legs to notice the floor colored snake coiled up just in front of her she didn't appreciate snakes much either.
You'd be amazed at how fast you can move with your panties down around your ankles and I was amazed at how vicious she was with the hoe. Left me with quite a mess to fix on my flooring.
That is just a New York sewer rat in training.

WalMart has had a couple of bad snake experiences in SoFla. Garden department,Pygmy Rattlers coiled up in the plant pots. At least two bites that I know of. They are small, but have very nasty venom.

I've never been vicious with a hoe when moving fast with my panties around my ankles. YMMV
That gave me a better appreciation for what my wife was capable of.

My wife used to manage gas stations when we first met, one day I was hanging out with her on one of her smoke breaks, when this guy pulls up, and asks "hey do you know anything about snakes?", Well I know a little bit, enough to know when to get the hell outta dodge around them, have handled a few venomous removals, but hey, I don't tend to go looking for them. So he pulls this coke bottle out of his car, and says "what kind of snake is this?" it was a pygmy rattler, a baby, apparently it fell on his head when he opened the door to his car, so he picked it up and dropped it in the bottle, about that time the snake yawned, and showed off his little fangs for the guy. You want to talk about someone needing to check their pants. WOW. All I can say was the dude was lucky. They are just as nasty as the "noisy" rattlers. But that being said, that's how most of the bites with kids happen, they find a snake, it shows no sign of aggression, they pick it up, play with it, and BAM trip to the ER, if not ICU.
