This is what they're asking over at Classic Motorsports?
"Let’s say you were accidentally transported back in time to 1970. You wake up with a headache and $3700 in your pocket. What would you buy?"
Fiat 124 Spider
MGB / MGB GT
Triumph TR-6
Porsche 914
Opel GT
Datsun 240 Z
I have this thought when I lay down to go to sleep every night. You really have to ask?
Convertible Hemi Cuda, placed in a hermetically sealed container, to be opened by me in 2007 just before Barrett Jackson. Use proceeds to buy all the above listed cars over and over again.

How about picking up a tired old, no-longer competitive italian race car?

'65 or '66 Shelby, 25 shares of Berkshire Hathaway, lunch, and directions to the Playboy Mansion.
Someone's used 289 Cobra.
Only issue is, without the internet, how do I find it?
Were Bill Gates or Steve Jobs even old enough to be invested in yet in 1970? if so, that!
I'd pick up a used Fiat Abarth 850 in race trim and blow the rest on shrooms and hookers.

You would be about $1900 short, but I guess a few payments wouldn't hurt.

Look in the classifieds in the back of Hot Rod.
I'd go get a 340 4-speed Duster. A '70 340 or 383 4-speed Challenger probably would be a few bucks more than the budget.
If it was late in '70 I'd probably get a '71 340 4-speed Demon.
One of the 69 Daytonas left languishing on the Dodge dealer's lot.
Or every 32 deuce I could lay my hands on. Or as many Ardun heads as I could find.
Or a P-51. Yeah, that's what I'd do.

LS6 chevelle
Or possibly a 70 1/2 Z28.
I really need to get one.
I'd hang out for a year and buy my dad's 69 Corvette, black on black, 427, 6-pack, side pipes...

Well, there's a 1966 Cadillac, a 1967 Land Rover and a 1969 MGB GT parked in the driveway right now. So I guess I'd have just as much of a hard time then as I seem to now.
Although a used Ferrari race car wouldn't be a terrible thing.

Chevron stock until may 1986 when I'd dump it and sell it for the Msft which lost tons of value after the IPO from $28 per share to $0.12 (according to yahoo finanace).
That should take your $3700 and turn it into $199-200M..
(Microsoft had 9 2-1 splits over the years).
Olds Cutlass 442 W-30, Pontiac GTO Judge or Buick Skylark GSX. Everyone had Chevelles.
Rx-3 would be nice, but probably 240z or just get a 510 wagon and clambake the hell out of that motherberkeleyer.

Weren't GT40s just a few bucks more than box-mobile price back then? Or were they always expensive?
