My brother has both an IPOD and an old receiver that he'd like to connect. It has no front input. Can it be done cheaply? I'm thinking single pin on one end and RCAs on the other. Any better ways? I am in no way an audio man.
Thanks.

If cassette, use adapter. If not, with some its just a matter of stabbing the wires and a correct resistor in the back of it, depends on make/model.
For a home receiver or car? For the home - $5 at RadioShack will get you the cable with stereo headphone on the iPod end and RCAs for the receiver. To be able to control the iPod without getting up and walking over to it...that's where it starts to get expensive.
Is the Ipod bluetooth capable?
If so use one of these.
I use one for my phone and tablet. It lets you control the stereo volume from the device.
I got mine on sale for about $40.
My opinion, if it is a home stereo, use the cheap headphone to RCA cable. If it is a Car Stereo, you can either use the cassette deck option (what I do, honestly it is "good enough" for the car), or get more involved and start splicing stuff. Although frankly, the best bet if it is a car stereo is to buy a $75 head unit.
I have an iPod hookup in my DD that Tees into the antenna wire at the back of the stereo. It works great but was a bit pricey at $100. (my car has all the vehicle info displayed through the radio, so I didn't want to lose that going to an aftermarket head unit).
Sixty one cents on monoprice. I use it and the "tune in radio" app every day at work. It rules.

Home receiver. Aren't ones in cars called head units?
This is the answer he needs. Thanks.
