My Dad had at one time or another a Bugeye Sprite, two Midgets (one a rubber bumper car - not all that cool now, but when I was in grade school I thought it was pretty cool), a Fairlane GT with a 390 and a 4 speed, and a C4 Vette.
69 FJ40 Landcruiser with a 350
75 and 76 260Z
59 Bugeye Sprite (he had this when I was born, I grew up with this car, it's what got me to like the cars I like and the racing I like, and is the car that got me into GRM. I was supposed to get it when I was 16 and I was hoping! I never really got to work on it because I was too young to fully understand and he sold it a couple years back.....I cried)
75 Celica
Dodge Aspen
79 Toyota 4x4 Pickup
Datsun 620 2wd Pickup

his dad had a maroon 69 Hemi Roadrunner
1955 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer
1934 Ford Fordor (327 Vette powered)

We had a 1956 Holiday 88 Sedan in red/white. Good memories.
My dad never had anything THAT cool. He had a V6 Fiero and kept it until the warranty expired, at which point he immediately sold it because of how much time it had already spent in the shop. He replaced that with a '91 Miata, which stayed in the family until I wrecked it the week I got my license in '03. He had a '97 328i with a slushbox until '05, at which point he got sick of having a boring car and leased a 6spd G35, which in turn was replaced with the '07 S2000 he drives now. I guess that's not that uncool of a list after all.
My mom had the cooler car history, though. I don't know everything she's owned, but in the '60s and '70s, she had a late '50s Chevy with a V8, a VW bus, and a TR4, among other things, and did all of her own maintenance and repair work on them.
59 Alfa sprint veloce, 65? Alfa GT, fiat abarth 1300 coupe, fiat 128 sedan, Jensen healey, v8 4 speed amc hornet, fiat 600, bumblebee Porsche 914, 76 bronco, omni glhs, gmc motorhome, 66 beetle, I think that's it. The 128 and the bronco are likely still around, the others I have no idea. Other than the omni which was completely worn out and wouldn't pass emissions when it was sold (it was 9 years old at the time so fixing it would have been far more expensive than it would be now) there isn't any reason the others couldn't still be around though.
OK, you twisted my arm... Frist car-an Essex, bought for 25 bucks' I believe 32 Ford convertible. 2 stroke Saab, Bugeye, Countless Vws including a '61 double cab truck(no Ghias), 63 Jag 3.8, 55 chevy pickup, 67 Chevy work truck, 50's Caddy limos of various types, come to think of it, caddies up to when they went square the first time. '40 model Buick or Olds. Many more that I will not believe I left off when they come back to me.
My dad's first car was a '65 Plymouth Barracuda with a 273 V8. He traded it for a '71 Charger with a 318 because he wanted air conditioning for moving to Texas. That one was traded in on a Honda shortly after I was born due to the oil crisis, and since then, most of the cars he's owned have been pretty mundane. He's gotten into Jeeps recently, though.
I think how much he missed the old Mopars had a bit of an effect on my own car buying choices.
corvair. 67 and 68 mustangs, gto, some 70's merkur that i dont remember exactly what but i remember it being cool. oh and to top it all off.... a 427 cobra (a real one!!!)
Mom sold a mid 70s Trans Am when she got preggers with my brother...no room for 2 strollers for a newborn and a 2 year old...Blue with gold firebird on the hood, T-tops, 4 barrel...this was sometime in 1981 that she traded it in for a grey on black AMC Eagle Wagon.
Dad tossed a Cherokee Chief when I was in grade school because the firewall had rusted thru and fumes were making the passengers sick...I still can remember my 6'1" 280 lb father sitting on the fender inside the engine bay turning wrenches...
My BROTHER bought a 1964 Impala SS 2-door for $1,000 as the engine and trans was in parts in the trunk.
I wish I had bought it off him as it was a really nice car. He made some good money when he sold it.
My parents had 240 & 260 Z-Cars they used to auto cross and road rally, then they got '67 and '69 Stingray Corvettes and raced them. Just before I was born, mom had a Mustang II. Yuck... LOL
the coolest car my father had... was a 1968 Opel Kadett Rallye he bought when stationed in europe. This was not the taped graphics look like a rally car.. this was an homogulation special that he got in germany, took to spain, and then eventually to the US.
Sold it in 1980 for $1000 when it was "just an old car" and due to medical issues (father 100% disabled since he was 27) we needed the money... now that car is worth big money.,. and was probably the ONLY one in North America
57 Chevy(rustbucket 4 door)
Some early Datsun Z car that he later found out was worth a metric buttload of money to the right people.
Various rusty American sedans, a full size late 60s chevy convertible somewhere in there.
Still has: 67 Camaro, built 327, powerglide, been parked for 20 years and needs a lot of body work. I really need to just drag it out of the garage for him and leave it in the driveway.
Dad didn't have lots of "cool" cars. The one exception that I know of was a Datsun 510, but aside from that, it was mostly light trucks. And the '70-something Landcruiser he had in Saudi.
If my wife and I decide to procreate, I'm on track to be that dad that never sold ANY of the cool cars he had.
64 Vette. He had to sell it when my brothers got too big to ride in the luggage tray. He also had a Corvair. Not sure what year. My grandfather begged him not to by that car. Kept harping on him about what a piece of E36 M3 it was. Shortly after buying it, Pop was shipped overseas, and the car stayed at grandpa's house. He never gave it back Drove it till the day he died.
Dad sold cars, and never owned one while we were growing up. He'd just grab something off the lot. He'd usually grab a cheap appliance, but every once in a while, he'd get something cool. I've got a picture of an almost-new Grand National sitting in our driveway somewhere.
My dad never had any cool cars. Some domestic econobox for work (Toyota Trucks later) and then a family sedan or minivan that my mom drove most the time (4runner later.)
They did have a nice preowned cadillac for a short period before selling it to move across country.
The coolest car he has is probably the one he drives now, a 1993 LS400 that I bought, fixed/brought up to snuff, lowered and threw on some chrome 18" rims for him.
He did pass on a cool car once. His boss @ 3m offered to give him some kind of exotic but he declined after finding out how much insurance was going to be. So the story goes.
My dad never had many "cool" cars either, but he made mom sell her '73 t/a after I was born for a 3.8L tbird....
My grandpa had a 65 Olds dynamic(iirc) 88 that had been an olds executives car, power everything, retarded engine option, ac, etc.....my grandma sold it after he died without even offering it to dad...He has hated that since '88. Dad did however get grandpa's '87 f150 though......it still hasn't cracked 55k miles yet.
The only remotely cool car my dad ever had was a '63 Fairlane. Why? Well I'll tell you. He never borrowed money to buy a car, and had previously had a '69 AMC Rebel that returned to the ground much sooner than he anticipated. So, not being prepared to buy a new car yet, he bought this faded light brown fairlane off a little old lady (seriously, I was there) for $300. He and I always thought it was much faster than it should be. It had a stock 289 in it. Years later I learned that the standard V8 that year was a 260, and the only 289 available was the 271hp hipo 289, and it was a pretty rare option. Of course he only owned it a year or so and then traded it in on a '74 Dodge Colt.
Dad had a '58 Bugeye Sprite, bought new in Europe while in the Army and brought it home. 1962 Bonneville convertible, 1970 Camaro RS 4-speed split bumper, red K5 Blazer 75ish. All were new when bought.
Mom had a 1964 Corvair convertible 4 carb 4speed in high school, 1966 Coronet 383, and a 1969 Mustang fastback.
I killed the party, they brought me home in 74 vega wagon auto...later hot spots were a Chevette auto and a LUV with more rust than body.....
