I just saw a gray go-fast with what looked like some grey digital camo painted on it fly past my house traveling north is the ICW. The boat looked like this one that I found posted on a random blog. Not sure what exactly it is/was or where they are based, but it was going along at a good clip and fun to see. Normally I see a slow procession of sailboats, fishing boats and some motoryachts.
Anyone know any details on this boat? I assume it part of a Navy Special Boat Unit or something along those lines.
Is that an WWI Helmet Pez dispenser on the back?

Where was this? A few years ago I got to see Blue Thunder boats (US Coast Guard, I believe) in my back yard. Wonderful engine noises. Heard later that those race engines only went 40 hours before rebuild.
I think the mid-ship stripe (done in stealthy grey on grey) represents Homeland Security.
Those are new SEAL boats, I believe.
Coasties have a red stripe like that. There are (or were) some bad-ass Coastie outfits. Like, raid the drug runners, shackle them down to the deck for the trip back to port, etc.

Was it being piloted by the #2 terrorist in the world? And was an old vintage PT boat chasing it?

The one I hotlinked was just the closest pic I could find on the internet. The one I say seemed to have a digicamo pattern on the side and not the gray DHS stripe. Definitely not USCG. Those guys go by several times a day and they tend to like orange on their boats.

Found this after some more googling. The one I saw had the high sides like this one.

I wonder who builds those.
CG boats have a red and blue stripe set at 62 degrees.. the "racing stripe" was designed in 62.. hence the number of degrees it is off from horizontal
The colour also varies by what the boat does. Patrol boats are generally white or aluminum with the inflatables being orange. "work boats" are black, and icebreakers are orange/red

Here is a boat that is a bit different and is genuinely GRM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybpdNcMPs8s

(Another hotlinked random pic from the internet. I didn't get a pic of the ones I saw. I was on a ladder painting my bedroom when they went past.)
Two of these bad boys loaded full of camo wearing folks just went by headed in the same direction as the other guy. Assuming that these guys are based out of Little Creek, I just wonder when they passed by heading south because I sure didn't see them. Maybe they are working out of Lejeune or Morehead City. Those are both a good bit up the coast from here.
There is a joint services training center in Camp Lejuene, NC, run by the Coast Guard that teaches brown water boat tactics. You may have spotted a new boat being tested by them, or a boat belonging to one of our allies being used for training. I spent about 6 months total there over 6 years. Lots of cool toys, and some confused Marines.

Could've been some allied boats that I saw as the uniform camo pattern did not seem to be current US uniforms that I know of. FWIW, I'm about 100 miles from Lejeune by road, a little less on the water.

Maybe it is a giant gray snorkle(wacker).
We can probably rule out Somalian pirates.
In reply to T.J.:
Wouldn't put it past them to be doing a trial run somewhere, dignitaries love that kinda stuff when they visit. It may even be cheaper for them to transport by water from Lejuene to Little River than getting an oversized semi truck.

That's what the pirates count on.
The only cool thing on the water by my house is ice.
