Just looking for a list of cool songs that got really creepy when done acoustically. This came to mind when I heard Michelle Branch's version of Creep for the TV show You. But not just her, the Korn unplugged version is as well.... it's just a creepy ass song unplugged.

Johnny Cash's cover of Depeche Mode's "Hurt" is a good example, but it gets extra creepy with certain visuals.

I just came here to post that, but it was Nine Inch Nails. I like the song, but it started out creepy, and only got creepier when an old man did a better version of it.
I never paid attention to the lyrics for One Direction's "the story of my life" until I heard an acoustic cover. That's a sad set of lyrics right there. The original sounds upbeat and fun until you hear the acoustic version and its pretty dark.
Ever listen to Bon Iver? There is some really weird, dark lyrical stuff there. Songs about getting crushed in a mine collapse, visiting a blood bank to steal blood and try to find out who it came from, slicing off body parts, a kid drowning in an icy river... all masked by this beautiful ethereal music.

The odd thing is the acoustic version may well be what the writer(s) originally heard as they plucked away on a guitar or piano.

Most covers of I'm On Fire qualify.

The first time I heard that song it was this version. It sent shivers down my spine.
Someone did an awful and creepy cover of Sound of Silence. Was it Disturbed that did it?
"If I could fly" is straight up top-40 80's pedophilia.
Filter turned "I can't see me loving nobody but you" into a stalker anthem.

I'm not sure if it's "creepy", but this accoustic cover definitely changes the feel of the song:

Slide guitar cover of pink Floyd.
Originals, not covers, but if you like dark lyrics listen to some of Ian Noe's latest album. Between the Country, Dead on the River, Junk Town, and If Today Doesnt Do Me In all come right out of the dead heart of the Appalachian meth epidemic. I saw him live and the...power...coming off him was like heat from a forge. Crazy stuff.
Speaking of creepy covers... At 1:30 it gets even creepier... then at 2:40 just comical... then if you haven't vomited yet, at 3:15 it just gets berkeleying stoopid.
Or what could possibly be creepier than a cover of Closer by Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Fast forward to 45 seconds
Not really acoustic, but creepy as heck;
Here is an obscure one. Reality TV show gives someone a Brittany Spears song as a joke. He kills it

Johnny Cash covered DMs "Personal Jesus."
Not necessarily creepy, but Placebo's take on Running Up That Hill is nice and dark.

I much prefer Puddles' "undisturbed" version, although it's not acoustic. Damn creepy, though...

Truth. I'd never heard of him until a few weeks ago, saw him open for Marcus King Band.

I saw MKB in Philly and Ian was a good solid opener for him. The crowd warmed up to him the duration of his set.
"Creepy" in a haunting sorta way: I never really paid attention to the lyrics on Maiden's "Wasted Years..." mostly, 12-year-old me just spent countless hours learning it on guitar so I could show off to my friends.
I heard Ryan Adams' acoustic cover while going through some seriously horrible E36 M3 a few years ago, and it still has the power to put my head in a spot I don't want to revisit.
If one of y'all could jam this at my funeral, I'd appreciate it.

In college when I pitched "Closer" was my walk up music (until my 9th appearance, then people complained and the AD had it pulled) I've definitely never heard it like the Chipmunks though.
