Tonight after picking up some $100 Mini wheels and tires for the Chevette (sweet!) I took an ill advised short cut through downtown. The clutch on my S10 died where the road narrowed for construction. No motion in any gear. Luckily there was a space in front of a pizza place so I coasted into it. My ass was sticking out but I was mostly clear of traffic. Popped the hood and yup, clutch master is empty and I have no fluid.

So I muscled the truck straightish in the spot and called AAA on my dying cell phone. Approximate rescue time: 3 hours. So I did the only thing I could do-I went inside and ordered a pizza. Luckily the bartender found an android charger so I caught the three separate calls saying the truck would be there in 15 minutes. They were a half hour apart. So I had a beer. Then two, then three. WTF I'm not driving right? Finally the guy arrived and loaded without incident.

Got home and had to move the Chevette-dead battery. Really? Jump packed it and got it out of the way. Finally got the truck off the flatbed but it wasn't parked optimally for my gate to close. What to do? Fill up the clutch master, pump the pedal, and sure enough I drove it the rest of the way in.

So instead of helping a friend move an engine I got a relaxing night of pizza and beer with a free ride home. Plus I know what I need to do to fix my truck. Coulda been worse.

Good attitude toward what was (I'm sure) a more than slightly frustrating evening.

Sounds like a good way to avoid cab fare.

Reminds me of the joke about the guy who walks out of the bar and into the pizza joint. Asks for a pizza. "Here or to go?" ask the pizza guy.

"Delivery" says the guy and heads for the pizza delivery vehicle.

Sounds to me like you need to practice clutchless driving. First gear, foot on pedal to let starter engage, crank, start, drive, match revs to shift, watch way ahead for lights. Easy peasy.

Unfortunately there was no motion in any gear or I would have done that. I suspect there is something else wrong-like a throwout bearing sticking on the shaft when it gets hot. We'll know soon enough.

No movement is a different story...

As the friend who needed to move the engine, you suck.

You'll need to log in to post.
