Just go ahead and take the prop off until you are ready to use the boat again. It won't last long otherwise.

Buy an engine shroud that looks like the one on your motor and light it on fire till it gets a good charred look. Place this shroud on your motor in place of the real one and keep the real one in your house. No one will steal something that heavy unless they think it works.

that is one of the things they tell you for keeping the engine on your Dinghy. Even if it is brand new with zero miles on it.. scuff up the cover and maybe the drive leg to make it look like it has a million miles on. Only way to keep people from stealing them off of your boat
