Sigh, if you don't know diddly about trapping, it's fine to admit it. Most people don't. But pretending knowledge you don't have just makes you look like a fool.

Coyotes in a foothold trap are rarely wounded. Real rarely.

I'm curious as to how they wouldn't be wounded. Not trolling, really interested to know.

Foothold traps are meant to hold an animal by their foot. Using your hand as an example, you want the trap to catch you across the hand across the metatarsal bones, above your knuckles. The size of the knuckle joint and the paw pads help ensure the trap holds the animal securely.

Trap jaws are designed to hold the animal, not maim it. The jaws may be padded, or offset (recessed) or blunt. They will not be toothed or serrated or knife edged.

The trap will have a length of chain and some swivels to allow the animal to move around without injury as they struggle against the trap.

You size the trap to the target animal you are catching. You control animals coming to the trap by the type of set, the bait and lures you use, and where you position the trap.
