Long Beach qualifying spread: 1.4 seconds for the top 22 cars. Danica was 0.2 slower than Franchitti who was last year's champ, yet they were mired in 12th and 20th. Contrast that with F1 where the spread is somewhere around 4-6 seconds. Maybe, just maybe, aside from Penske and Ganassi the rest of the teams are pretty closely matched.
Spec vs. Non Spec series
Also, if you discount the new teams, the spread was less than 2.5 seconds this Saturday at China.

Danica doesn't like road courses, so she doesn't do well.
This is from a professional driver ?
She raced on road courses to start her career; karts in the WKA and formula cars in FF (in England of all places) and Formula Atlantic in the States.
She doesn't perform well on road courses now because she's not applying her talent, or she is simply out-driven by half of the field.
oldsaw beat me to it...I was about to say the same thing. I still say she has the talent, but needs to regain some focus.

Eh, can't help myself. Here's Sabine in some sort of FIA GT car, I think it's a Porsche GT3 Cup car:
The best part about that photo is that it shows how much she loves her job. A big happy grin like that makes anyone look good.

That's pretty cool - especially the second lap so closely matched to the first.

that segment is such a rip off of the segment they do for that "Inside F1" where
Nico Rosberg draws the track blindfolded
In case you hadn't noticed, IRL is trying to copy Formula 1.

But, Simona is far more attractive and does a far better job on the track-map.

Yeah, but it's still pretty cool. I used to do "mind laps" with someone holding a stopwatch, but this technique kicks it up another level.
And maroon92, I hear ya. The whole "Civil War" stunk..in the early 90s, F1 was actually afraid of CART. Legal injunctions to keep them on ovals in Europe & Asia, etc. I still hope for the best for open-wheel racing in the US, but I don't know if that damage will ever be repaired. Personally, I was happy that the reunion happened, even if the IRL "won"..but when I they picked the smaller cars over the bigger ones, I was pretty disappointed. I know they did it for safety, there were no ovals left in ex-CART, and no money to send them to the wind tunnels to design oval-track aero. But still...IMO the loss of prestige of the series is because the the "big" cars left Indy, and the "slow" cars were put in. For me, if Indycar wants to regain the status it abandoned in "the split", they need two things-the 2.65ltr turbo, and a TV package on a network someone actually gets at home.
Only thing I can give as evidence is that attendance at ALMS races is still much higher than at the Grand-Am, even though there are more teams and better racing (grr...you guys finally made me admit it!!! ) in Grand-Am. Same principle..notice that fans don't quite talk about Daytona the same way they talk about Le Mans these days?
Not flaming anybody, just throwing out a few thoughts upon this crazy sport we all love so much..
