Remember that red and white Econoline van with Dave driving? Well, there is another pic of him, sitting in the back with his Mommy. http://loudwire.com/dave-grohl-mother-stories-from-rock-star-moms-from-cradle-to-stage/ My sister has written a book called From Cradle to Stage, about what it's like to raise a Rock Star, interviewing moms of a number of rockers. Check out the attachment. She has been working on this for several years, her first book, but she was a college English professor, so she does it well. I don't have a copy yet, but will soon. Cool.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
Some say he's going to be in the south east later this month...

Pretty good picture of my sister, too, considering she's 79yo! I might get in trouble for saying that
I heard about this book the other day, easy cool! I'll have to read it.

Don't worry you're far enough south to say your sister is good looking
In reply to cwh:
Wait.. your sister is Dave Grohl's mom?

Yup. She is as nice as Dave is. Considering all she went through in his early years, a miracle. Worked out well. I imagine the other moms had similar experiences.
In reply to cwh:
Super cool. Glad to hear he turned out from the wild early years.

Amazing considering the reputations that most have in that industry. No drugs, little booze. He did get arrested once for DUI. In Australia, on a moped.
Correct me if I am wrong but Mrs. Grohl also worked as a substitute teacher in Fairfax County from time to time? My wife insists she had her many years ago.
My Miata power antenna broke, making the radio worthless. So I put in the only CD I had in the car and have been listening to it for about 8 months.... and I'm still not the least bit tired of it. You can guess the singer. Thanks for the post. I separated out the link to make it easier to see.

You are correct. She
was a sub and a regular teacher before going to into the college. Was a full time prof until David bought out her retirement, so she could get some well deserved rest. They lived in North Springfield.
Very cool. I'll have to pick that up.
Our new, truly local radio station (100.9 thecreekfm.com for a listen) has been doing a weekly show called "Lovechild of Rock" that is hosted by Phil (Capricorn Records) Waldon's daughter Jessica. She interviews other children of music legends and lets them bring in playlists of the important music from their memories. It's really cool to hear the inside family stories of the people whose music moves you.
Dave Grohl continues to impress me. His documentary / movie "Sound City" was amazing-- as is the "Sonic Highways" series. Who would have thought that Nirvana was just a beginning for this guy. He continues to produce fantastic work (both in film and music) and seems to be a really down to earth, cool guy.
He's what a rock star should be. Congrats to your sister cwh---- she obviously raised the boy right!

Joe- Actually, his first "real" band was Scream. They earned that name. Performed mainly in sleazy clubs in Europe. MANY times they would get stiffed by the producers and Ginny had to wire him money to get back home. He was hired on with Nirvana because he hit the drums harder than anybody else. He has mellowed since those days. Still does not think highly of Courtney Love.

Ok, there has to be a good story behind that. Any more details?

I never got the details, but will ask my son who should know. Yeah, for all the opportunities thrown his way, DUI on a moped is pretty lame.

I saw that documentary a month or so ago, I really enjoyed it.
I have to admit I didn't pay much attention to the Foo Fighters or Dave Grohl in the past, but then after I saw the Rockin1000 video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JozAmXo2bDE ) I started listening to more of their music and reading about them, and was favorably impressed with their character.

I don't think that was a Challenge for him to realize
Also this thread is incredibly timely.

It has not exactly been a secret. It usually comes up whenever Dave Grohl is discussed. I am wonder if CWH's family reunion post from a few years back is out the archives.
CWH: Tell your sister I am going to check out her book. And tell your nephew that I really liked "Sound City." I grew up listening to the music that came out of that place.
