Please, please, PLEASE stay the way you are. Don't act like all those crappy news sites I was on this morning that cause my computer to grind to a halt because it cannot deal with their bloated flash animation/shockwave advertisements.

keep the bloat away and I promise to stay here and get my news from the hive mind......

I slingbox the local news and then CNN and begin to browse after my morning rush is over. If its important, I'll hear it. And the local traffic chick is hot...

If you use Firefox or Chrome, install the Flashblock addon and the animated junk won't play until you click on it. Saves lots of RAM and processing power.

that's right. I keep a list of products advertised in such a way that are unusually annoying or intrusive, and I never buy those products. I know many of those ads are farmed out to 3rd parties and it's really their fault, but still, Mini should've looked into who they hired to advertise. I suppose I should extend that to all BMW, but I was never planning to buy a new BMW anyway.

Nope, that was exactly what I needed. Once again, a GRMer (thanks GameboyRMH) has given me exactly the information that I needed to get through the problems in life. Can GRM be a self help group? A religion?

Dunno about a self-help group. This is like an AA meeting with a fully stocked bar where we give each other homebrewing tips.

In reply to GameboyRMH:

Exactly. It's the only place where you say "Hey I found this, but it has all of these problems, and I don't have space for it. The wife said she'd leave me if I brought home another rust heap that I'll never finish. What should I do?"

and everybody else says "Do it, it will be awesome." or "with an LS3 powered junk heap, you don't need a wife!"

How about a collective. Resistance is futile.

GRM is like a room full of knowledgeable enablers. God I love it here.

Speaking of enablers, something strange happened to me today. The wife was out shopping and stopped at the local Habitat for Humanity thrift store. They have a '69 MGB sitting there for sale. She starts texting me pics of the thing and telling me that I could take it for a test drive tomorrow but not today, telling me how many miles it has, etc.

I do not need her enabling. I have at least one more car than I really want already.

A fair number of sites seem to think it makes their site better. A slideshow that reloads the page every time you click 'next' is never going to be a better way to display content than a simple list on one page. It's not even like you don't have space.

I can't stand that, plus my computer can't either. My OS is pretty much no longer supported so no updates to browsers or plug ins and all that so, as websites add more and more that require that, it will get worse and worse for me.

Why does every damned thing have to be powered by Java? You have to watch that stupid circle spin around for 30 seconds just to load a 480x640 picture. Back in my day we had this thing called HTML and it let you see a picture just fine, thank you.
