The "Jack White" channel on Sonos radio (officially channel name is " third man records public address system") has been playing Death for a while. "Politicians in my Eyes" is a jam for sure.
Death and Rough Francis just released a split single, too.

Nice. Going right to the source.

Isn’t it? I wish we knew about them growing up.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
Dude, I'm rocking out to them right now at work. They deserved better. Almost proto Bad Brains, if you ask me.
Got my hopes up. Thought you were talking about Death.
Local-ish to you, formed in Altamonte Springs in 1983. Pioneers in their genre.
Both bands called Death were hugely influential. I'm more of a Death (the Death Metal band) fan myself, but there's no denying the influence of Death (the Proto-Punk band).
I need to dive deeper into the Florida Death.
Speaking of Florida bands, currently listening to Fever Beam from Tampa or St. Pete.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I can help guide you through Death's catalog. Their stuff is basically split into two eras.
Scream Bloody Gore, Leprosy, and Spiritual Healing are all Old School Death Metal (OSDM). They are all classics in their own right; brutally awesome. They pioneered the Florida Death Metal scene along with their contemporaries Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and others.
Individual Thought Patterns marked a shift in their sound with the addition of fretless bass legend Steve DiGiorgio, and they moved into a more technical sound, pretty much giving birth to the Tech Death genre. From there, Human, Symbolic, and The Sound of Perseverance all embraced that Tech Death sound, growing more technical and more ridiculous with each release.
Death had a rotating cast of bandmembers over the years with many coming and going. The brainchild and constant force behind Death was frontman/guitar player Chuck Schuldiner, who was the band's founder and mainstay throughout their run. He sadly passed away from cancer in 2001. He was an unbelievable talent who is still missed.
While I love all of their albums, my most listened-to albums are Leprosy, Spiritual Healing, and Symbolic. The latter is one of my favorite albums ever.
Thanks, Tony, for the suggestions. Gotta check them out.
And I forgot about the Testament connection via Steve DiGiorgio.

Death is an amazing band.
Although Cannibal Corpse (another favorite of mine, I have a signed drum head from Paul from a show 20+ years ago) is from Buffalo, NY, not Florida. Though you can change that with Morbid Angel....they started in Tampa.
Hey David, you going to this?
Went to lunch at Oudoms today and was surprised to see it. I saw mustard plug like 25 years ago, never seen VGS but they are ska royalty. And its at davinci's!

Oh, that's right, Cannibal Corpse is a NY Death band. Whoopsie! Yeah, Morbid Angel is definitely a Florida Death Metal staple.

Outside of Cannibal Corpse and Death, I haven't really listened to much Death Metal in the last 20 years. Got into stuff like Mastodon/Gojira, etc.
Man, Mustard Plug, a name I haven't heard in a while. Gonna throw some of that on.
I haven't listened to Death Metal in a while either but when I did that long road trip z31 I was listening to some old CD mix tapes I found in a CD wallet from high school/college and have brought it back into my playlists on Spotify. All the Screamo mix tapes I had too brought back all the feels. Underoath, Thrice, Alexisonfire, Senses Fail, etc. I went ahead and booked a trip to Glasgow to go see Thrice in play there in February bc of it and of course Blink in San Diego next summer just bc they still know how to party.
