Destroyermen

Anyone else reading or have read the Destroyermen series by Taylor Anderson?

I'm on the 5th book of the series and I'm sucked in.

If anyone else is interested, without giving too much away, it's about a WWI era destroyer put into service during WWII in the Pacific. They find themselves having to run from the Japanese Imperial Fleet and try using a squall to evade the Japanese. When they come out the other side, they end up on an alternate Earth. Awesomeness ensues from there.

Not exactly. It's an alternate Earth so nothing is like our Earth. The land is in the same places, but everything else is different even the people.

I don't want to give too much away.

Several years ago I read the Lost Regiment series by William Forstchen. Similar plot line in that it involves a group of soldiers washed through a wormhole into a parallel world and has to fight the hoards of hostiles on the other side. Good read.

OMG. 7/8ths of an amazing movie. Awesome setup, great performances, huge stakes, then the end comes and... nothing. Absolute cinematic blueballs.

hey blinker, i have read all the books expact the last one that just came out. great series to say the least. very cool stuff and it gets even better from then on. not only this this world a multi point dumping ground and a nexes from different worlds and times that get dumped into this world.

Reminds me a bit of a story I read somewhere about a soldier that got transported back to Viking times. He figured he would rule those primitive people, but once he was out of bullets, he had almost nothing to offer such a society.

It is kind of interesting how transporting something modern into the past would seem to be significant, but many modern things removed from their infrastructure (fuel, ammo etc) quickly become worthless. Where do they get fuel oil?

If it's a WWI destroyer, it's probably coal fired, which means they could theoretically burn wood, too. Just less efficiently.

I have listened to all the ones that are on Hoopla, and yes they are a good read. I learned quite a bit about Naval warfare from them.

In the books they oil fired, but they do make mention of having to burn other sources of fuel.

Like I said I don't want to ruin the book(s). If anyone one is into Sci-Fi action novels, I highly recommend it. Taylor Anderson definitely did his research and things get very technical at certain points. You do get attached to characters too and there are several.

When I read books, my imagination makes up the visual for me and in this particular series, it's on overload.

This is a great series. I have read all but the latest one (sitting on my nightstand to read next) and would recommend them to anyone who likes WWII and science fiction or alternate history.
