Went up with the owner - instructor today. Oy!
Winds from the west, I didn't think things were popping but hey, that's why I'm the student.
This Duo-Discus is a 47:1 ship that cruises at something higher than I'm used to. Got towed to 2000 ft. and found lift right away. Went to 4300 and started twisting up a thermal. You have to go where the lift is, so we followed this 12 miles away up to 7500 feet.
This is the first time I was in close proximity to other ships. Imagine being an avid Auto-Xer and finding yourself banging fenders at the Glen. It's all new to me, but if someone finds lift you see it, go to where they are!
Gotta tell ya, I got queasy. An hour of spinning up, watching the instruments (near sight) and the horizon (far away) other planes 100 ft. away. My head got silly, stomach went gurgley.....
All that aside, it was a hellva flight!
Headed back to the barn, I put the nose down to do 70 knots and watch. Call in to the tower, turning for downwind, we're doing 100 knots
I let George land, after all it's his ship.!
Put it away in 25 minutes, headed home.
Sliced potatoes sprinked with hot peppers and oil, steaks on the grill, boiled corn.
What could make this day any more perfect?
(Oh stop, that was this morning...)
