Last I knew, I was on it.  Lately, I've been getting tons of spam calls.  Even more annoying, the typical approach is a robo-call which is a dead line when you pick it up, followed by a live solicitation call a couples minutes later.  Now, even more annoying, they've started spamming my cell phone.

Did I miss a re-up somewhere, did the list go away or is it just "spammer gone spam"?

Worse ones are the local numbers they are using somehow. It’s getting berkeleying annoying that I have stopped looking at the phone when it rings. I prefer text now days. Hopefully it won’t affect the text format anytime soon.

The opt-out has a time limit.  5 years, maybe?

Ugg, I get the same, and have to answer unknown numbers as my cell is my business.

Probably 4-5 calls every day as you describe. Most seem to be health insurance  related...but I'm pretty wise to the 2 second pause by now and just hang up.

There is also no sense in blocking numbers after the fact as they are spoofing anyway.

I have already received spam by text, and I don't text just anyone. When I get a call from a number I don't know, it goes to voicemail. If they either don't leave a message or leave a recorded crap message, they get added to contact Junk. Contact Junk is set to block, so I never get bothered by that number again. The spoofing is real, more than half the spam calls I get are "from" my area code.

That only works if your business doesn't depend on getting phone calls from numbers you don't know, unfortunately.

Yep, you are right. But since my phone is not for business it works rather well.

Android gives me the option to block and report as spam (to whom?), and warns me that some calls are suspected spam. Though the most telling thing seems to be that the number is similar to my own (same first three digits after area code, for instance).

Which is weird. It reminds me of that spam email thing where email is spoofed as having been sent by your own or a similar address. "That's odd, I wasn't expecting email from myself, but it must be important!"

Volume is always off. Call no text especially local gets the Android block.smiley

I recently got a call from somebody asking why I kept calling him. Seems they were spoofing my number.

I have a Nebraska number. I haven't lived in Nebraska for 8 years. I don't know anybody I'd like to talk to there anymore. I block the whole 402 area code.

The Do Not Call registry is still there, the spammers are just not paying attention to it.

We’ve recently been getting spam calls from varying numbers with an automated message in an oriental dialect I can’t pinpoint.

Since I use my cell for work & our company is nation-wide, I generally answer it if I’m not tied up & it’s reasonably near working hours.

You expect scammers and spammers to follow the law that is decades behind the available technology?

LOL.

The work around for the telemarketing people is software that automatically mimics your area code and exchange (the next three numbers).

They have two advantages. First, you're more likely to answer. Second, you don't get their real number, so you can't report them for violation of the do-not-call rules.

The current fine is $40,000 per violation.

The silly thing is when they spoof my own number.  Yeah, like I'm calling myself.

They spoof local numbers so how are you going to report it when the number they used might be someone else's valid number or a fake number?

I just wish my phone had an emp button I could use to go back down the line to them.

ECM, can you block numbers on a land line?  Based on the number of calls we get everyday, the DNCall list is kaput.

You do have to re-register every few years. Obviously it doesn’t stop ALL of them but it does seem to help.

Do Not Call.  There is a system in place that, once registered and you receive calls, you can report the offender.

Allegedly .......

This has exploded recently to the point some days I'm getting 3-4 calls on my personal and/or work cell phone(s).  Every time I get a new one I use the 'block this caller' on my phones (both iPhones) but they've got really creative.  The spammers seem to have figured out that Ford Motor Co cell phones all have the same area code and first three digits, they are making calls from numbers that look like corporate numbers so you answer them.  Also every time I try and get through to the spammers to tell them to take me off they've been trained to hang up immediately before you can say that.  IT's always the same three types of scam.  First is trying to sell me a car warranty.  No good.  I drive a brand new company car, made for and provided by my employer so I don't think I need a warranty.  I also have a 10 year old Volvo and a 19 year old Porsche, I don't think they'd cover either of those.  Then there is the 'You've been selected for a lower rate on your student loans'  Well I went to Uni for free in the UK, my wife, her parents, siblings and our kids have never had a student loan.  You have to get down to one single niece to find anyone related to our family that's ever had a sodding student loan.  Finally it's 'we've been trying to contact you about your credit cards, it's urgent we speak to you about a rate reduction'  Funny, we don't have any credit card debt.  It's really pissing me off.  If anyone can offer a real solution to stopping this crap I'm interested.  I like the air horn idea tbh, but it may not go down well at work hitting aan air horn 2-4 times a day.  It may wake people up or something!
