that's my useless trivia for the day... got the harness for my Neon pared down to the bare essentials, and there are only 2 wires going thru the firewall grommet where there used to be something like 896 or so- the switched ignition wire and the fuel pump wire... well, there are a couple of power wires used to power stuff inside the car (still has wipers, because it might rain and still has a basic heater, because it might rain) too, but i don't count those..

I'm not surprised, they aren't complicated cars.

oops... after tinkering on the car today, i realized that there are 3 wires... i forgot about the wire to trigger the starter solenoid..

You don't need the starter to RUN the car. Just slap a big beefy switch in front of the bumper so you can pretend that you're hand cranking it.

Actually, if you have any engine that requires regular valve adjustment, it is a huge timesaver to put a second starter switch on the firewall.

After my experiences with 90's-era Mopars, I'd expect them to run better with less wires.

actually, it does.. i still need to bypass the auto shutdown relay since i think that's why it randomly decides that it doesn't want to start- then i'm done gutting the wiring.. got it down to 3 fused circuits under the hood and 4 circuits inside the car- 3 if you don't count the cigarette lighter that i left in there for some reason...

Every time I look under the dash of my Ram I REALLY imagine this would be the case. I have had many thoughts of yanking the computers, fuel injection and computer controlled transmission from my truck and tossing on a carb and old style transmission without the computer controls.

but then you'd still be stuck with good old fashioned Mopar wiring for what's left, and judging by the wiring in the 99 Ram that my brother used to have, it wasn't really much different than the 79 Dodge that i had about 15 years ago that would randomly decide to send smoke pouring out of the dash..
