I am thinking about changing to Direct TV I have TWC. What attracts me to Direct TV is I can keep Cable Internet and upgrade with a overall cheaper price ($90 compared to $121), same channels, I can DVR more then two programs, and right now they give Sams club members $300 gift card. The negative is there is a installation fee $99, reliability? and I have a satellite sitting on my house. Positive of TWC, convenience, and I have had little to no issues. Negative, is every year they bump my price up even after negotiating it down, I loose services, tired of the sing and dance, rather be locked into a cheaper rate. Anybody made the switch yet?
I switched. TWC was charging me too much for what I was getting and I couldn't get some channels I wanted without spending more money.
So I am saving $40 and get many more channels.
I got a $ 100 card. Different deal I guess.
So far I am happy.
We had Comcast for 15+ years and switched to DirecTV about a year ago. Have no regrets. Reliability is great. Sure, in a really heavy storm, we lose the signal, but that happened with Comcast too. In fact, the signal comes back quickly with DirecTV, with Comcast sometimes it would be out for hours. We don't watch a huge variety of shows, so can't necessarily comment on that, but we have a metric E36 M3 ton of channels to chose from. Price is significantly less than Comcast too. I'm quite happy.
EDIT: When we signed up, we got NFL Sunday ticket for free. That in itself was worth it. We loved it.
If their customer support is at all like Direct PC's, I would run away. Fast.
As another time warner customer going through the same thing every year i looked into dish and direct tv. The reports in this area are the customer service is terrible.
With all the storm damage in town over the last few years id rather have the customer service then save 33 a month.
Pretty sure AT&T owns direct tv now. For whatever that is worth.
We have been happy direct tv customers for over 5 years now. A+ would buy again.
The only issue I've had with direct tv want even mine personally. My buddy was back living at his parents house, and when his dad died, to this day 3 years later, they want their own death certificate to make changes to any plans or even cancel. That's not a problem for people just signing up, but something to keep in mind down the road.
I'm still trying to figure out comcraps math as to why my exorbitant bill would go up even more by ditching cable and keeping phone and internet. Must be nice to have a federally backed monopoly. Really funny when at my local office they try to get you to switch power companies by saying Allegheny power had a monopoly and monopolies are bad. I don't know how the woman says that with a straight face.
I switched from Comcast a few months ago and have been happy with it. My base package doesn't have the weather channel or FXX but does have velocity. 1 or 2 storm outages for 10 minutes or so, the DVR loses it during that time too. Get with another Direct customer if you decide to switch, IIRC there is a referral program that will score each of you $100 gift card.
In reply to Gearheadotaku: Cool yea my brother in law has had it for years, but I refuse to switch over because verizon is like dial up where I live and that was the only option.
