29th is "the" day, and either they are going to actually stagger it somehow, or the internet is going to crash. I don't see the servers handling the traffic load if Microsoft pushes the update world wide at the same time.
This is how Skynet gets us. The Microsoft employees were eliminated months ago...

Still haven't gotten the notice on the Winbook, although I did do the update thing in the control panel and click on Reservation.
Anyone on Win10 now? (Not the beta)

A buddy of mine is on it, but I'm still waiting. Even tried to force it, but it wasn't taking. Guess I'll just wait.

I did the upgrade at lunch. I fought it a bit yesterday, then decided to just do a factory restore. Went off pretty well afterward.
I'm using it on a cheapo HP Stream 7. I ran the prerelease on a virtual machine. This is my first experience on bare metal. It has rough edges, but I mostly like it, and find it to be a huge improvement.
I wonder how much butt sniffing and phoning home goes on in the background.

You may be able to opt out of paying for security upgrades by allowing custom specially targeted ads from our trusted affiliates to be displayed every time you want to see something.
Can I register for my free upgrade, then use it on a different new build?
I don't think so, so far it looks like you at least have to download it to the install you're upgrading. IIRC once you upgraded you can use an ISO image to install it on a new machine but I haven't tried that.

Anybody know if you can redirect the new install to another drive? My current boot drive is full to the brim, and I'm not sure it would even allow me to upgrade to Win 10, but I've got two drives attached to the computer that are only 20% full.

I did the reservation thing on 2 of our computers but I think I will hold off on downloading until some of the issues are worked out. Both computers are a couple years old and running 8.1 which we have no problems with. Mine is a 27" touchscreen which is fun with 8.1.
If MS is going to support 8.1 until 2023, we will probably want new machines by then. So I see no immediate need to upgrade. The old computer in the basement is still on XP and will be until it dies.

I don't remember any such option in the upgrade UI, but the free upgrade version of 10 is licensed to replace the existing OS.
Not the same, but related: the old OS is retained on the computer for a month, and you can roll back during that time.

Nope. You have to do an in-place upgrade install first, then you can use your key to install Win10 any way you like, such as from a boot disc/drive.
So installed 10 on my wife's computer. Her worry was that The Sims 3 wouldn't run as well. Her computer isn't exactly the highest power machine, so she had to turn down some graphics to play. Turns out with 10 she can actually turn those features back up. So far my experiences are only positive besides the annoying bing search berkeleyups on the new browser. I'll fix that very soon.

My six year old Dell laptop is actually much happier since the upgrade. I was surprised at the improvement in boot and shut down times. Took a minute to figure out where everything is but I'm used to that. At work I bounce between a Dell cad station, a Panasonic CF-53, a Panasonic H2, and an iPad.
