I'd like to have a sheet of 22 ga stainless steel made up 30" wide x 10" high to fill the gap left by my microwave - as we bail on it and get a real range hood.

Yeah, they added forming a couple years ago. No clue how good they do, but they are pretty good in their other stuff
How about dropping the cabinet down 10" and making the gap above a decorative shelf?

not a bad idea but the exhaust duct runs straight up
