The stripes on the mustang....well they were old, crusty, and flaking off. But by some paradoxal irony they are the biggest pain in the arse to get off. Using a vinyl "eraser" tool at a slow rpm, not a whole lot of fun either, but getting a lot further than i did in the past two days. I have a friend who is oging to buff, detail, etc the car when I'm done with the stripe removal process. Also ordered a set of these saleen wheels. Tires got here today, wheels should be here monday. And if you are worried about the progress of the Trans Am....I'm multi-tasking.

That is one sweaty dude...
makes me glad that I decided not to stripe my mustang with the vinyl...
although doing an old school GT350 package on my 97 cobra would look sweet
Use 80 grit on that sander and they will be off in 30 sec
came strait from physical therapy (tore my mcl), the gym, then to working on that. It was a nice 92 with 100% humidity this morning.
80 grit is the back up
all done but of course as i finish hwashing my hwhip it starts raining. gotta love florida.
here is how it stands now...will look different again monday.
That is sick. I love those cars. Great pictures too!

This happens just about every time I wash my car. Nice Mustang; black cars look excellent at night.
Those erasers work so much better with the actual pneumatic tool v. using a drill.
yea but four hours of my life is cheaper than a new paint job. thanks for the compliments!

And this, ladies & gentlemen...is what "Grassroots" is all about. Sometimes, time is not money. Do the berkeleying work, and feel the pride!
Car looks great, Dirtybird!
thanks friedgreen. going to get buffed out tomorrow. i trust myself with an eraser wheel on my car but not a buffer hmmm lol. No one of my friends is a professional detailer, figure i'd let him prove his skills on my car for before/after pics that he can show off.
Plus I'll be mounting/balancing my new tires and wheels and painting the calipers!
I love the stealth look...however, that car is still a baby...how is it the stripes are "old and crusty" already?

Lookin' good, man! They really nailed the "retro" look with that model Mustang. Plenty of cues from the original, without being goofy.

Florida sun day in/day out for the last 3 1/2 years on a black car = crusted on vinyl stripes.

Understood. The reason my nym is "Fried Green Corrado" is because the thing was originally a Florida car. I'll never get the color back..but since there's all this stuff about "survivors" now, I guess it's not that big a deal after all...
In reply to DirtyBird222:
oh I agree. I've also had the drill get traction and put a huge dent in the panel I was working on.
