Now that is a COLOSSAL loss to the music world, folks.
Dude was a monster player. An absolute revolutionary in soul music. I'm genuinely bummed about this one.

I might as well throw up one of my favorite tracks that he played on:

...and an awesome cover of it by the Jeff Beck Group:

(Boy, Beck-ola sure did look cool at that time--I need that hair )
Man, that sucks, those guys put on one hell of a show.
I saw Booker T in 2006. I can't remember if he was playing bass or not.
I know what's going in the CD changer at work tomorrow.
That's pretty sad. I only remember him from The Blues Brothers, but it still sucks when a quality musician dies.

Aww, man!!! If you (or anyone else who reads this and hasn't seen it) have some time to kill, check this out:
Stax Revue, Norway 1967

This is how soul music is done--period. Duck Dunn held that E36 M3 DOWN.
In his book, Brian Johnson called Dunn the best bass player ever.

...and ironically, he didn't play on the original recording of it.
How cool did he look just locked in with Cropper in front of those sweet Marshall Plexi amps while wearing that cool-ass suit?! That is how "cool" is done.
His pimp hand was very strong.

Time is Tight is often the underlying soundtrack to my dreams. I'd love to have that song playing softly in the background whenever I enter a room for the first time.

This really bummed me out today. But the music lives on.
I still like that Green Onions song.....

Infinite cool. Truly captures the time period when it was made.
...and imbeciles like this are what makes me rage at youtube:
This is ok but I cannot imagine sitting and listening to it. Music has vastly improved and is multi-layed compared to this. Also the keyboard on this sounds like elevator music.

lol I'm the opposite, I feel music has gone through a dark ages of sorts and some of the newer acts coming out in the past few years are reviving what made music good for all those years before.

I would go check out the song in question, but pretty much all musical content on youtube has been blocked in Germany (thanks, fascist copyright industry!) However I just might agree with said commenter.
Different people listen to music for different things; you apparently listen for the talent of the individual musicians, I focus on things like complexity, atmosphere, and progression in the whole song/set itself (which is why 95% of what I listen to is electronic, and non lyrical.) Doesn't make me an imbecile.
Then again I liked a few of the songs from the Blues Brothers a fair bit so who knows?

Time is Tight was the first Booker T' song I heard. It was The Clash's cover of it on a B-side compilation album. Cool is a totally apt descriptor.

Oh man. I knew the guy was important, so I looked up what kinds of tracks he was part of.
As session bassist for Stax, he laid down the bass grooves for a ton of the all-time great soul songs. E.g. "Hold On, I'm Comin"
Forwarded to me by my friends in Memphis.

Don't get me wrong--I'm all about new music (mostly indie/alternative), but the comment I quoted is like saying a Ferrari Lusso is garbage because it's not as sophisticated as a 458.
The Stax sound has played a huge part in the neo-soul/traditional soul revival. Listen to the Alabama Shakes or Black Joe Lewis and that influence (and Dunn's bass style) is all over it--in young, new acts.
There was a great article in Spin a couple of issues ago that had a nice infographic about how the past influenced the future.

Dunn was responsible for a LOT of the thump, groove and funk of that song. He had a way of making 8th notes just SWING. So subtle and so amazing.
