I saw this story on a German newscast that appears nightly on my local PBS about a new way to get more advertising to train passengers.... They have come up with a way to send vibrations through the train's windows directly into any bone of a person leaning against a window on a train. The idea being that whatever message they want you to hear doesn't require you to be awake to get it / hear it. It was developed for making money by "playing" product advertisements, but the train company admitted that it could also be used to announce upcoming stops or delays to the schedule....all that incidental "stuff" train passengers might want to know. The messages aren't heard, but whatever part of you leans on the glass (head, or shoulder, for instance) will "receive" the vibrations.
The company took a poll asking folks what they thought of the idea of using train windows as "speakers" for ads, or whatever. Strangely, folks thought it was a bad idea, by a margin of 3 to 1 .
Makes you wonder if they will then start renting pillows / insulators in case you don't want to be harassed by the windows.
