A coworker who lives in downtown Denver calls in today saying there is a hostage situation and that he is on lock down and can't come to work. Then he emails me saying they are using his White Jeep for cover and he still can't come to work and was able to snap a quick picture of his Jeep. The things people do to avoid going to work.

Did he go out and open the lift gate for them? Or does he leave it unlocked?
I am pretty sure car glass does not stop bullets BTW... he might want to tell the cops.

I don't think tubular spare carriers do much good either.

No, but they might deflect a bullet... making one that was going to miss you hit you instead.
The other though of cover isn't just as a shield, but they may not know quite where to aim. Granted this is mostly glass so....
My neighborhood was on lock down one morning after a cop was shot by a guy on meth. Well, every car was searched. Lucky they released the lockdown just before I left for work. I'da been late.
I got stuck outside my old apartment complex (which was huge, like 1000 units) a few months ago because of a similar situation. GF was running late for class at like 7AM, so she woke me up and got me to give her a ride so she wouldn't be late because of parking, and when I got back the cops had the whole place shut down, news crews were all there, and everything. Totally sucked 'cause I was stuck out there until like 11 and hadn't even washed my hair yet.
