in the next day or two, I'll be down in the general Daytona area on my way to Orlando, and the folks I'm traveling with are perfectly fine with stopping any time anyone wants to. It would be great to meet some of the folks who make this magazine and just in general talk shop/bench race/blabber/chat with them while I'm in town. Would this be possible, given it would very likely be lunchtime-ish on Saturday when we got to that general part of the state, and more importantly, to locals, what's a good place for tasty beef and pork products (burgers/ribs/BBQ/steak/the like) in that area?
If you are in town M-F, the office is always open from 9-5 or so. Saturday will be hit or miss, as most of us will be at home, or wrenching on projects.
Food wise, you can't beat the Brickyard for burgers (on 92-- International Speedway Blvd.) We also have a couple of Sonny's in town for BBQ, but I they are just good, not great.
I am hoping to get down in the end of feb the last shuttle launch. I would be in the aea as my grandmother is in Tarpon Springs.. and I can't go all the way to florida without stopping in and at least saying hi
On Saturday you'll most likely find us scouring for LeMons car parts. We could be anywhere!
+1 on the Brickyard. It really is very likely the best burger I've ever had.
If you must have BBQ, there's a pretty good place called the Smoke Shack on US-1 just about a mile off I-95 at the Ormond Beach US-1 exit (head South from 95). It was on pretty regular GRM rotation for a while, but it's right on the cusp of being too far from the office (we're another 5-20 minutes south depending on how lucky you are with the lights).
But I would never steer anyone away from the Brickyard. Easy to find (exit on International Speedway blvd and head a couple miles east), and oh so good.

Mental Note: When visiting GRM Office, bring random rare car parts for attention.
Does the Brickyard have vegie burgers?
Veggie burgers are not exactly the vibe here. Think NASCAR, red meat and Harleys and you'll be a lot closer.
Or just take a look at the menu.
Nothing fancy at the Brickyard, but what they do, they do well. Rennie (the owner) has told me that PLN was particularly fond of the wings.
Margie
We get vegie burgers in Sturgis at the Road Kill Cafe on Main Street.
I'll add a +4 on the Brickyard. If you want veggie, Pasha's is in the same neighborhood and does some nice veggie cuisine.

The Dancing Avacado Kitchen is also great for veggie or meat eaters. Take International to Beach St. go South for a block and it is on the right. We eat there all the time. Great healthy food, and very friendly service. They even have damn good burgers!
Ya'll are making me hungry now.

I ate there a couple of times when in town for the GRM Rolex 24 experience. It's certainly worth checking out.
+1 (or how ever many bazillion we're up to ) on the Brickyard... ate there last yr while at the Rolex.. will definitely be there again this yr
and they'll fix the burger RARE ... where as here in NC you get this vacant stare and the recorded answer " I sorry sir all our burgers are cooked to an internal temp of 150° (or some such) what ever the # is, it does away with any flavor the burger had... bleth... damn nanny state law...

Um, I think Florida has a law like that, too. Rennie just doesn't care.

Don't worry, the men in black suits are already on their way to "revoke" his man card.
