What a waste of a good typewriter.

those typewriters are a good $15 or so on ebay.... in South America. Yes, there is demand, shipped there before.

Nice try tho.

So is it more hipster to want one of these, because ironic? Or is it more hipster to hate these, because they ruin an old typewriter, and typewriters are cool, because ironic?

A friend has one of those. Last time we chatted about it, she said it was pretty rad.

And to think that I threw out a perfectly good IBM Selectric typewriter a couple decades ago. WTF was I thinking?

That's got to be one of the most techno-hipster thing I have ever seen.

I am sure there is a iPod dock in the near future that spins the iPod in the middle of one of these:

That would be a bit of a step backwards in sound quality from a decent turntable.

I really like the qwerkywriter. I have a clicky type keyboard that clicks like an old IBM PC keyboard from the 80's (Adesso). I love it, but it doesn't look nearly as cool as the qwerkywriter.

I always wanted to get an old rotary phone that works as a cell phone just for LOLz, but never cared to try to build one and they seem to sell for more than I would pay.

Those are actually worth money now. Refurbished ones have sold recently on Ebay for $450+ IIRC.

I like it. How does it work? How to the key-strokes get converted?

I have one of these that I use for VOIP calls. It's far better than either yelling at my computer or holding a cellphone up to my head. Much more comfy with better sound quality. It'll plug into a phone as well.

I have an older Nortel rotary phone in the garage. I don't make calls from there, but I can answer them. It's fun for hanging up on telemarketers and politicos because it makes that satisfying "ching-ing-ing" noise as the mechanical ringer resonates. Nice and solid, too, from when you rented your phone from Bell instead of buying it. They wanted the things to last forever.
