I filled up the Mini yesterday. Not because I was concerned about the price, but because I'd just put it back on the road and I wanted to dilute any remaining crap gas as much as possible after draining the tank and the lines. I'd only put 5 gallons of fresh 91 in from a jerry can.

It took another 3.5 gallons. Sorry if anyone needed that ;)

Around Winston Salem NC today MOST places had regular (at least), but premium was harder to find.

Some places still out, some places charging much higher rates, but I filled up the MR2 at the Walmart on 150/Peters Creek Pkwy for 3.29 (premium)

If normal demand is 100% and supply is 100% (assuming JIT supply strategy) with a small reserve, is panic buying really the problem when supply is cut drastically?  Did the eastern seaboard suddenly go from 100% demand to 150% demand?  Is it panic buying when you are buying the same amount you did previously?  It's fun to poke at the people in the trash can pictures (old, stagged, or limited in reality) but are they the real cause of the shortage?  I don't see how this compares to the great toilet paper shortage of 2020 when there is a real reduction of supply now.

Once the data is released we are likely to see that demand spiked massively this week when normalized for the number of hours stations had fuel.

A lot of the gas stations in the metro Atlanta area right now seem to be out of gas but have diesel. Makes sense as it's a lot harder to hoard enough diesel for a commercial fleet for a long period of time. I also got my first funny look in one year of TDI ownership for using the diesel nozzle - somebody must have thought I might have been desparate enough to use the wrong fuel.

I just made a trip for a wedding from the Daytona Beach area to Nashville through Atlanta for a wedding this weekend. No issues along the route but intentionally avoided being near empty in Atlanta.  Stopped for gas in Macon and a couple other times for restroom breaks and didn't see anything unusual. Your results may vary.

Another way to look at the situation.... North Carolina- not a single city with less than 40% outages
