I've seem dudes who carry a mini tactical backpack with them every where that does a good job of being a "butch" purse. Get a camelback style and never go thirsty either.

Unless your daily commute is through snow covered mountains in below freezing temps in the dark
I have a messenger bag I take most places when I travel (not like if I head to Wal-Mart or downtown, but for most overlights or anything of distance.)
-Thin lil ASUS laptop, mouse, power adapter
-Grid paper
-Tape Measure
-rechargeable flashlight
-earplugs
-USB drive
-Safety Glasses
-Lock for LOTO
-Camera
-Laser distance measure dealy
-Sometimes some other tools, or a light jacket, or a sandwich, or a hard hat, or a water bottle.
-Sharpie, paint pen, red pen, black pen, pencil
In theory, its what I need for when I see customers at work. In practice, it gets used for all sorts of stuff. If I didnt do so much air travel I would put a knife and a leatherman in there also. I keep a leatherman in the glovebox of the car.
Check out dango wallets, I use mine pretty frequently. It has a multi tool integrated into the design. Works well. Get the parachord tether too to satisfy your parachord needs. Mine has a "tile" card in it so I can find it with my cellphone
Mine is the m1 tactical, it's been awesome

I started small and went nuts. I ended up with two backpacks. One with everyday carry stuff (511 tactical, covert backpack ) and another (osprey aether 85) that i can walk away and survive (hopefully) indefinitely out of. The 511 covert has been awesome, I very frequently have something that I need that I would have had to go without or forage for. The osprey lives in whatever vehicle im in unless its an mr2 (cause no fit :-/)
