Several Yough Senior High students carried on a time-honored tradition Friday as they drove various makes of farm tractors to the school on Lowber Road in Sewickley Township to celebrate the end of the year. Though not a district-sanctioned event, students bring their tractors to school one Friday each spring — dubbed “Tractor Day” — a tradition that has spanned several decades. The district of about 1,800 students encompasses 77 square miles with several rural communities and farms. Seniors graduate on June 2 this year.
So what kind of end of the school year traditions do you have?
Not an end of year tradition but a local story. Years ago a semi rural community did not pass another school levy so it was deemed that the district would end bus service. What they had not planned for was that in Ohio, youth can legally drive a tractor on the road. Kids were arriving to school in every form of agricultural and lawn care equipment. The school itself sits on a rather busy 4 lane rural-ish road. With slow moving vehicles on the busy road it was a real traffic snarl.
We threw paper into the hallways. Lame.
This was cool last year.
The only thing I can remember from 50 years ago was there was a senior class kegger held in a field someplace. I was a teacher's kid under extra close scrutiny for any misbehavior, so I didn't go.
I'm the Project Graduation coordinator at my HS. 6pm to 6AM: bowling, laser tag, arcade, food, field games, casino, raffles, mini golf, inflatable obstacle course, video game lounge, magician and hypnotist to end the festivities. I'll be real tired by sun up on Sunday.
Our Senior Prank tradition was to "borrow" for sale signs from houses up for sale and place them in the grass in front of the high school one night during the week before graduation.
I rode shotgun while my buddy drove his ‘77 F 150 Custom 4 x 4 up the outdoor stairs to the HS gym. There was no internet or security cameras at this point in ancient history so we actually graduated. Had the front bumper right up to the doors!

The harmless stuff- we had a rock outside of school that was regularly defaced. The rumor was it was only the size of a basketball and had been painted enough that it was now the size of a Volkswagen.
The less harmless stuff- Our senior class (mine specifically) went on an unofficial senior class party to the apple river in WI. about 150 attended. 98 came back with alcohol violations. They very nearly cancelled graduation for everyone.

On the last day of high school, a couple friends and I put all of our spiral notebooks in 2 lines on the street in front of school and I did a burnout along them in my '81 Civic hatch, creating an instant ticker tape parade. We didn't get in trouble because I drove right around the block, parked, and we made sure we cleaned up every scrap of paper.

perhaps they should have spent more time on grammar and less on horseback. "... as a prank on Montana principle."

I mean, that would be more on the news station covering the event on a 7 month old post wouldn't it? But sure its easier to just make fun of the kids that had literally nothing to do with the editing of that video. Maybe you can send your complaint to the news station?
When I was a Senior on HS. I heard about Senior skip day. All of us were ment to take part. I do not remember many participating in it nor myself.
In elementary school, we always had a "Field Day" where we would just go outside all day and play games, compete in contests, and eat snacks. It was fun.
I don't remember what pranks my class did in high school, but I remember two good ones from two classes before me:
-Someone rounded up some goats from a local farm and set them loose in the school, causing chaos and hilarity
-Someone strategically placed a number of large fish in locations in and around the school, and it STUNK for days
There was also Senior Skip Day, where everyone ditched for a day and went to the beach, party houses, etc. We were threatened my senior year that we couldn't walk in the graduation if we skipped, so just about everyone showed up for school and signed ourselves out in the front office. If you were 18, it was legal, and they couldn't do a thing about it! A lot of the teachers actually applauded us for "cheating the system".
My end-of-school tradition was to not go back until someone made me.
Luckily they stopped making me about 38 years ago.
I did a donut in the parking lot on my last day. I had early dismissal so the only person who saw it was the lot attendant. Yell all you want, I ain't comin' back!!
