I was at a gas station yesterday, and had an older guy walk up to me. He said, "I was going to tell you that you had a nice car, then I saw the red brake calipers." I just shrugged and walked away.

I suppose it's better than when I was driving the XR4Ti, when people would ask me if it was a Saab or Escort, then get sad when I said it had a four banger.

Had one today on the way in to work this morning, actually...

"Hey man, you've got a lot of brake dust on your wheel."

"......... ok."

The miata gets a couple of responses a year. Usually just the average 'cute/cool/neat car' comment. I usually respond with 'Yup.'

When I drive my mini I actually have to budget time in for comments.
"Is that a real car?"
"What is that?"
"How do you drive on THAT side of the car?"
The list goes on and on.

When driving the FR-S I get quite a few good comments. Had one guy taking pictures of it in a parking lot once too. Once they start showing up more often I'm sure that will die down. Usually people talk about how they heard about them but never see them.

When I drive the civic no one gives me the time of day and I usually just get a lot of looks of disapproval from anyone driving a big truck lol.

Random guy about my Ranger: "Thats the perfect size. I love it."

Tow rig driver on my F150 after towing it: "What year is that? It looks really nice."

I like the good ones.

I always get, "Hey dude/man/bro... Are you a cop?"
"Hey man, is that a cop car?"
"Hey dude, that thing still got the supercharged/chipped/suped up cop motor in it?"
"Hey dude, you're not supposed to drive old cop cars, they're supposed to crush those aren't they?"
"Hey, those have the 5.4 in them right?" "No, but mine does... "

I like it sometimes, but hate it sometimes. LOL

I used to get that a ton when I had the Swift GT. Being in the heart of the rust belt, not many of those cars are even left. Went to the Continental GT test at IMS a couple years ago and took it down. I came back to the car to see 3 people standing around it, one taking a picture with his phone. 3 parking spaces over was an older red Ferrari with no one looking at it.

I guess it doesn't have to be expensive to be interesting.

I did have a guy chase me down when I had the P71 with multiple bands of antennas. He wanted me arrested. Also had the cops called on me. "A cop cut me off. I want him fired." Yep. Never been a cop.

I have people comment on my car all the time. I had a random chick pull up to me at a red light and tell me it sounded awesome. I told her it sounded even better from the back seat, because I'm that guy.

One time while getting gas late at night, a teenage gas station attendant complimented my Hyundai saying it looked nice. We talked cars for a few minutes, turned out he had just got his first car not too long ago, a beater E36, stick. I guess there might be hope for a few of these kids after all.

And I think that's the only time a stranger commented on any of my cars recently. I might have got a compliment or two about the miata I had years ago.

I used to, all the time, when I drove interesting cars. I should do that again. The Volvo wagon doesn't get a whole heck of a lot of comments.

When I had my '66 Pontiac hearse/ambulance that was painted up like the Ghostbusters car, every single person on the street would stare as I drove by. Constant comments, shouts, thumbs up, all the time. I got used to it but every now and then a new person would ride with me and gradually sink down in the seat from embarrassment. That car got a LOT of attention.

i've had a couple folks notice the lift, sliders and bumper on mine. one was a valet that said something like "i really like what you've done to the truck, nice!" which i appreciated, the other was the service writer at the dealership, who i'd kinda rather be ignorant about that stuff, what with the warranty and all.

When I had my 61 mini, i'd agree with dr boost, you had to allow for extra time.

Back around 98 I had a 97 audi a4 that was de-badged. I had a guy driving the previous generation s4 ask if it was a peugot. That made me giggle a little bit. Usually get some fun questions when my race car is on the trailer, and nice compliments. I love it when little kids see it and point.

I dunno, he seemed to think that the red calipers on my Z06 were ricey. I guess I could have explained that they were stock, blah blah blah, but I didn't really want to waste any time on the kind of person that would walk up to me and say that.

I can't get gas in my '69 Olds without drawing a few people around. I'm used to that, but the people that adore my '75 Duster make no sense to me. It is bone stock, nothing custom, just a nice driver. I get stories all the time about how their mom had one, an uncle, how they learned to drive in one. I have yet to have one person give me grief for keeping the slant-6.

The Olds gives the local hoodrats whiplash when I drive by. "Yo man, that's ride is TITE!! was the one I got at a stoplight the other day. I always thank them for the complement and then make sure I"m not being followed.

The Jensen gets comments a lot, mostly because people do not have any idea what it is. The bike ditto. The Trooper is pretty transparent, that's a good thing.

The Ruckus gets two types of commentors: the ones who question my sexuality for riding a scooter and the ones who are like "look, a ruckus, sweet."

I tell this story a lot, because it's cute and fun.

One weekend day I was just out neighborhood cruising in my Miata. I happened down a culdesac, rolling in I went past a house with a young guy, maybe 5 years old, playing in the driveway. He stopped everything and just stared as I rolled by. I made the U and headed back by his house, him still staring, when he yelled 'HEY JOHN, COME QUICK, YOU'VE GOT TO SEE THIS'. About then another young guy, maybe 6 or so, came trotting out of the garage, and just stopped and stared as I rolled by. I slowed and waved, and they waved enthusiastically back. That made my whole day

While at a gas station in my '85 MR2

"Where did you get that body kit for your Fiero?"

Also:

"Where the &@%# is the motor in that thing?" When I was unloading junk out of the front and back of said car simultaneously. But that was just overheard. They were talking about my car, but to each other, not me.

By far the most common comment I get on my CRX is "Do you want to sell it?"

ouch! but take the chrome off the sides and its hard to tell 65 from 66 without looking at the dash, but 67? almost like they didn't try

On Friday I was turning around in a parking lot because I missed a turn,a nd had some kid driving the other way say nice van. Also said he wanted to buy it and put big wheels on it. I asked him "the 16"s aren't big enough?" I also told him it was for sale. Not that it really is, but I am getting frustrated with it, and if someone made me a decent offer I may let it go.

I also get tons of compliments and questions on my REPU, but hardly any in my RX-7 which is the nicest of all of them.
