The bump should be Crown, Woodford, or Cognac. The beer a European Pilsner/Lager. Grandpa Dan passed away at 91 about 10:30PM Wednesday. The secret to his longevity? As near as I can tell, it was a shot and a beer, playing golf, eating whatever the hell he wanted, and staying happy--If it isn't immoral or illegal and you can afford it, do it.
I wanted to put this up here, because he was a seriously cool dude. He caddied in a group with Ben Hogan and Jimmy Demerit. He served in WWII in the army where he and his buddies liberated a BMW motorcycle. Shortly after he came back with German Shrapnel in his shin, still there today. He married my grandma and spent 66 years with her until she died, had 5 kids, 12 grandkids, 1 great grandson, and probably about 50 cars ranging from Frasiers to Pontiac Cheftains to Jaguars (Bought on the floor at the Chicago Auto Show!) to the Lincolns and Caddies. He bought his kids MGBs, Fiats, Mustang 350 GTs, Opels, Firebirds, etc. And he could probably take your money on the golf course. He drank often, but not a lot (2 or 3 was enough), he ate whatever he wanted--if you can’t see your teeth in the butter, you need more--and he made friends the country over. He always said, if it wasn’t Immoral or Illegal and you can afford it, DO IT.
I'll just leave this with some advice he gave me every time I saw him: Remember to look both ways, hug your loved ones every day, keep your head down (golf), and keep your chin up and shoulders back.
Sorry to hear mtn, I will definitely have a glass of good bourbon in your Gpas name this evening.
I think staying happy is the key.
May you find peace in his passing. I'll be doing my part.
Grandpa Dan sounds like a solid fellow. I'm sorry for your loss.

Sounds like a man who could hold his own around the campfire telling stories. Admirable trait. Godspeed.

I know that this was for the best, based on your previous posts, but it still sucks. Hats off to grandpa.

Sounds like your grandpa would have been fun to hang out with, I've got a bottle of Lagavulin waiting for me at home and I'll have a glass for him.
20 years out of warranty is pretty good when you've lived life on your terms.
Don't drink anymore, but I'll have something deep fried and a good cigarette in his honor.
Your grandpa Dan sounds like he was a cool guy. You have my condolences.
Sincerely,
Another Dan
I thought a "bump and a beer" was referencing the lesser known holiday-

I bet your Grandpa would approve though
Another Dan thinks Grandpa Dan should be a role model!!! Get outside kid, put that electronic shhhtuf down and enjoy life fergawdsake.
And yes, you should see your teeth in the butter.
I have a Beck's Dark here with Gpa's name on it.

Fun fact about Grandpa: When President Roosevelt heard he was shot, the President was so distraught that the sadness of it killed him.
Ok, not really, but FDR passed the same day Grandpa was wounded.
Sorry to hear about your Grandpa. It sounds like he lived a great, full life. My condolences to you and your family.
Sorry to hear that. Sounds like he was a great guy.

Cheers to Grandpa Dan. Sounds like a life well lived.
Sorry for your loss.
Cheers to Grandpa Dan! I too, hope to someday liberate a motorcycle.
Recently took up golf , swatting a few in his honor, buzzed for good measure. Well done. And thank you.
Got some Woodford, no euro pilsner/lager (liked Becks back in the day when I could get it at German strength & pricing). I'll tip up a couple for G'pa Dan. Sounds like he had a good life, condolences on your loss
and I appreciate his service to our country
... I like living here and speaking 'Merican.
I was thinking about getting up to grab a beer. Now I havea reason to. I'll pour myself a shot of whiskey, too.
Rest in peace, Grandpa Dan.

My Greatgrandfather liked his bourbon as well. Every afternoon he would have three fingers of bourbon and a banana. Once in a while if I was over and no one was watching I'd get a drink too. I was probably 8-9 but he figured I'd be ok since my fingers were pretty small. He made it to 88 on that diet.
