Apparently Ms Lopez couldn't be bothered with actually returning to the Bronx so the commercial was shot with a body double (not touching that one).

And the car broke down during the shoot.

At least it happened in a neighborhood where there is at least an average chance of finding a mechanic named Tony who might fix such a car.

False advertising. They picked JLo to show that the car is so big it can hold dat ass. But it can't.

I'm just amazed that they're screwing up the release of this car with such terrible marketing. It's such an appealing product and they're actually screwing it up. I don't get it.

As for it breaking down, that would be my biggest reservation about buying one--Fiat/Chrylser collabo built in Mexico? Scary.

The head of FIAT in the US (some lady) got canned this week, so hopefully she was the problem and it will be better from now on...

Fiatsler really screwed the pooch with this marketing effort. I'm hoping the much-better Abarth commercial is a sign of things to come.

No pictures of said body double? This thread was a mistake.

Fiat really knows how "NOT" to sell cars. Worst ads I've ever seen. From what I've read about the car it's a good car but with the marketing effort so far i think Fiat is going to end up going back to Italy just like before.

The embarrassing breakdown of the sporty Fiat was spotted by journalist Ed Morales, who lives on the Mott Haven block where the commercial was filmed. Morales (with whom the entire TSG staff once worked at The Village Voice) blogged about the Fiat shoot last month, noting that “the protagonist was a woman in a white blouse with streaked, perfectly blown-out straight hair.” Morales, who thought the woman resembled the actress Jennifer Espositio, only learned that it was supposed to be Lopez when he saw the Fiat 500 commercial, which began airing in mid-October.

Jennifer Esposito is way hotter than JLo. I really find nothing attractive about JLo. Never have. There, I said it.

In one of the other threads here I discovered that the european Ford Ka is the same car. I think they should have been sold that way here, too. Dealers could have moved more units with the familar ford nameplate. Using the existing ford dealer network - i.e. not having the overhead of opening new "salons" - could have given it a lower price, too....that could not have hurt sales.

What's strange is that the marketting in other countries is NOT aimed at women or men. In the U.K. print and tv commercials concentrate on the car...not on who might be driving, or would want to drive it.

The dimwit in charge of Fiat Marketting in the U.S. was "canned" and rightly so. They will be lucky if they ever recover from this.

The Ka is to the 500 in the same way that the Mazda 2 is to a Ford Fiesta. Same BASIC platform, but engines and transmissions are different in each car. I've never driven either car (tho there is a PETA commercial that "stars" a Ford Ka and Simon Cowell), but supposedly the 1st gen Ka was brilliant, the shared 2nd gen? Not nearly so much.

I do not get the marketing either. Back when Fiat was still in this country, a lot of their ads were aimed at performance (the 131 jumping onto a departing ferry) and not just "looking good"

BTW, my girlfriend, who is NOT a car person, said that the J-Lo 500 ads were so bad it made her not want one. I have to agree.

What's really hurting Fiat about the marketing is that their #1 competitor is MINI, who has some of the consistently best marketing of any car currently for sale.

Three grand more for the mini, and you get 25% more room in a faster, better handling package....that has to be as important as the marketing missteps

$3k more? WHERE? Not anywhere around here.

Maybe $3k more than the Abarth will get you a base Mini
