On 11/16, Congress holds hearings on the first American Internet censorship system. This bill can pass. If it does the Internet and free speech will never be the same. Join all of us on the 16th to stop this bill.
I can't believe I'm just now hearing about this (I must have been blind). I didn't see any posts but even if this is a repost it's worth it! This is a very serious issue guys, and I hope we can all get behind it.
I thought it read Flight Internet Censorship and immediately wondered why anyone would want to watch porn on an airplane.

Oddly, I can't seem to find any reporting on bill itself from domestic sources. I heard about it on slashdot a while ago (PROTECT IP it was called then). Plenty of chatter from the rest of the world though.
It is too late now to stop it if it has enough support to pass but you can still get your Guy Fawkes mask on amazon and install TOR today.

God, I'm so happy that we don't have to deal with the BS you guys sometimes do. Goes to show how much the US caters to business I guess, when it trumps the rights/privileges of the citizens.

Just because it passes doesn't mean the supreme court wouldn't knock it on its ass. I have faith this would be the result. You cannot censor what is considered free speech even if it allows illegal activity to take place, similarly to any other constitutional law can effect other laws.

Just because they're considering this should infuriate you. There are plenty of places this could stop, and before it starts is the best one.
Is this the one that includes telling the truth on the internet? IN other words, you can no longer make false statements as wel?

Very few things infuriate me. It's not with my time. I'm sure someone will pay someone else to make this go away before it can even effect me.

But I can't help two observations:
The folks who pay to make things happen are on the other side of this issue.

"Infuriate" is a strong word. Things upset me, and yes, it upsets me that this would be attempted. I'm still upset with Metallica for the napster incident. I really see this as such a weak attempt that it will not even make to law.
I'm sure someone ready and willing to drop some bones to support the right side of this argument.
