I always tell people to feel free to to lowball me. I'll just tell them no or counteroffer. Some people get all bent out of shape, but if someone offers me 200 for a 1,000 dollar item, I say "sure, 200 is a great deposit and you can pay the balance within a week!"
I put E36 M3 on Craigslist to get it out of my yard. Lowballers welcome. Just sold a ride on lawnmower because we got a new zero turn. Threw it on there, guy lowballed me and I said sure, and now a day later I have some cash to spend and a spot to park the new lawnmower.
You can either offer stuff for sale or get rid of stuff. I just want stuff gone. Not interested in fielding two weeks of emails and phone calls and people who have you wait around all day and then don't show up.

I bought a 800 dollar (wasn't worth it) for 400 (totally worth) hard top for my jeep. I told the guy, hey, I inly have 400 bucks. If that doesn't work for you, cool, but if it does, I can pick it up tonight. He said, you know, your the most polite low ball I've had. Come get it!
If the floors and shock towers aren't rusty, his $750 opening price is already a good deal! It's tough to find a truly roadworthy Festiva for under a grand around here.
