...not sure if some of you noticed, we got a bit of snow in the middle of the country. In Tulsa, we actually broke the previous 24hr record, by getting 14"+ of snow starting early Tuesday morning through early afternoon.
Here is what my car looked like on Wednesday.

And here is yesterday after digging out the driveway, so we could get my car out of the way since my wife had to go to work today.
In fact, I was going to go this morning, until my car got stuck in front of my house, just trying to get it into the street (on thursday).

Thankfully about 30 minutes later, some rednecks were just out driving around in their truck looking for people to help. Three guys pushing + turbocharged FWD fury finally got it to the curb.
Summer tires for the lose
Another reason Mazda should have made them AWD!
Here in Superbowl territory we have had the coldest temps in 22 years. We've had lots of ice and snow and now we're getting snow. We are at about 6' right now.
The cold came from up north, but the snow's coming from down New Orleans way. Go figure.

I remember the first winter I had my ms3 (and I live in MN) and I tried to do some snow like that. Yeah. I dumped it in a snow bank at my brothers apartment and left it there. Tell you what though, with winter meats, these things are tanks.
I can only imagine how great this car would be with proper tires for winter.
Problem is, we usually only get 1-2 storms per winter here and usually they melt off in a couple of days.
It's hard to justify another set of wheels/tires for roughly 10 days of the year.

two reasons Mazda did not.
1- they didn't want to cannibalize sales from the already underwhelming Ms6
2, due to the design of the ms3, the down pipe is right in the way of where the transaxle for the AWD would be.
I know, it bothers me too.
No, no, no. According to every "driving in the snow" thread on here any competent driver should be a able to drive through a Siberian winter in a 2WD Ford Ranger with bald all-seasons. All 4WD/AWD does is make you crash into a ditch.
That's a record snowfall?

Around here, 12 flakes would be a record snowfall. Heeheehee.

with summer tires it still would've been stuck

Not quite. It's more along the lines of:
-
The primary effect of 4WD is that you hit the snow drift (ditch, tree etc.) that much faster.
-
If you need 4WD to drive, you probably shouldn't be driving.

that last part not really fair...... I have gotten along fine over the yrs with my little FWD econoboxes with retread snow tires on the front... except for my driveway...... you put 6 - 10 in of snow down and I'm pretty sure there's none of you that can make it up my drive without 4W4 or all-wheel drive (and "real" snow tires to boot)... I'm in my 60's now with a late 80 yo Mom, neither of us feel like climbing up that driveway .... hence the Suby...
'course you living in the PRC might not understand that... not a whole lot of snow covered mnts in southern caly........

Driving the Dangler Wrangler the other day, I was thinking I really need a 4WD is for pansies! bumper sticker.

Local grocery stores are out of fresh produce and meat, many smaller gas stations are closed because they are out of EVERYTHING, including gas.

A friend and I went to three different ATMs today, all are out of money.
Now it is predicted we are going to a couple inches tonight or some sleet/freezing rain. Then Tuesday get another 5-10".
The situation here in OK is really starting to reach critical mass. People can't get to work, freight trucks with supplies aren't running, and now they are talkin about more snow, closing in our record snowfall from Tuesday.
Surely if our gov hasn't declared a state of emergency, it will happening soon.

OK is about 8 hours from me ( well, according to the law... it's more like 12) and I have an ms3 that has snows available. I'll bring some beer
i'm in the mood for a road trip. Also, that grocery store pic is EPIC.
Our Speed 3s would have fun together in teh snow! Ha!

I just went for a walk, the sidewalks in places are knee-high in snow. But at least it's warm - and pretty.

speaking of snow...thats my grandmother saturn first, my legecy behind it, and my rambler off to the right under the car cover. in the garge to the left is my stock car. ...

Yeah, I completely understand what you guys are going through, I was just outside and stepped in a puddle. Good thing I was wearing shorts or my pants would be wet. Brrrrrrr my feet are cold!
I was working on my truck today and I had to change out of my jeans into some shorts because I was getting hot. What's that? I'm not helping? Oh, sorry team, my bad.

Nobody in this forum every expounded the virtues of less than optimal tires.
-
We would promote the use of sand bags in a Ford Ranger.
-
All 4WD/AWD does is make poor drivers think they can stop four tires from rotating quicker because, as it gives them more grip on acceleration surely it means they have 8 points of contact.
Just thought I would take your slight exaggeration and slap your sarcasm around a bit

If those had been AWD I'd probably have one in my driveway right now.
I know what it's like trying to get anywhere on snowy roads on summer tires. I got caught in a blizzard before I had a chance to swap my snow tires onto my SVT Contour. I down shifted (and even matched the revs) and when I let the clutch out I immediately lost traction and slid across three lanes of traffic. That sucked. I guess 10.7:1 compression does that...
Any way, good luck with the snow! I know we've had our fair share up here in NH and MA and I wouldn't wish this on anybody.
