For all you Firefox users, what add-ons do you use? I've been using FF for a while now, making sure it was as good as I hopes (got burned with google chrome) and I'm gonna keep it. I just wonder what add-ons you guys/girls like.

I use a bunch of them on pretty much any FF install I have:

  • Dictionary switcher with a couple dictionaries (usually German and British English)
  • ScribeFire (blog editor)
  • Adblock Plus
  • FireBug on my development machines
  • Better Privacy on my PCs, but it does seem to interact badly with something on my Mac
  • NoScript when I feel particularly paranoid. It renders a lot of sites almost useless until you start working through which scripts to allow and which ones to block so I tend to leave it turned off
  • ForecastFox on some of my machines
  • LinkedIn plugin on one of my machines but I'm thinking about deinstalling it.

I tend to try out a bunch of add ons but often don't find them that useful and turn them off again.

to get my swanky minimal look ive been using:

  • hide caption titlebar plus
  • tabs on top
  • title bar menu

sample:

then just rearrange your toolbars or look or whatever to be as small as possible, I could go further but I like a bit of GUI, its great for the Dell Mini, I can get back a lot of the screen realestate on tiny monitors

Heh -- not a threadjack so much as an interesting comment/turn of events...........

I am actually using Chrome because I got tired of the repeated crashes I was getting in FF!!! You see, I'm a "tab hog" -- I don't close anything and find myself with 20 or so tabs open at once. Chrome handles my "disease" quite nicely.....FF, not so much! I was getting 2-3 crashes a day. Sometimes I'd get all my tabs back, other times no.

And yea, I am updated and on the latest FF release, tried a beta, tried rolling back a rev.......no luck. And it was a sad day to change over just because I had been using FF for years! Then all of a sudden a couple months back, blammo, no bueno, por nada, por kaka..................

Back to your normal programming.....

AdBlock,AB: Element Hiding Helper, NoScript (Well trained, too), BBCode... that's about it, really. With Adblock and noscript ads are pretty much a thing of the past, should I not want to see them.

AdBlock Plus, Echofon, All-In-One Gestures. Seems to be all I need.

Try one of the Gesture add on, they are very useful once you start using them (I have FireGestures)

ColorTabs is kind of cool (you can give the GRM a custom GRM red color)

I also have CustomizeGoogle to get rid of ads (you don't get those stupid sponsored links).

As mentioned already, Adblock and NoScript.

One thing I have never understood is why people use adblock and the like the internet is not free. I guess people don't understand what hosting costs.

I completely agree, the internet isn't free...we all have to pay for our internet service, so why be subjected to constant advertisement? I suppose you think using a DVR and fast forwarding through the commercials is a modern sin as well...?

Actually Who exactly do you think will make sites if their is no money in it. I make a substantial portion of my income through advertising online. I guess I just view it different because of that.
Your ISP does not cut me a check when you send them a payment. I pay for hosting out of my pocket. If those sites do not turn a profit they are shut down. So if everyone put adblocker on and no one made any money from web sites how long do you think they would stay up? Good luck that is why everyone started putting zango and pinball on free movie sites and free porn sites. Think of that the next time you are sucking up Tim's bandwidth by posting picture or whatever. Buy a freaking muffler or whatever he is advertising in the side bar by going through his link and support the site. So it has a reason for being here.

XD: I block more than ads on some sites. There are places on the internet I don't want anything loading until I've had a look at it. It's also handy when some genius infects an adserver with a nasty virus and infects the computers at work. NoScript gives you a chance against threats like that.

Besides, places I intend to support, I will support.

Truthfully, I don't care - it costs me plenty to have access to it. If I choose to pay attention to only the content I am actually interested in and discard the rest... and that destroys the entire internet, so be it.

I install IEtab on every machine. Too many sites don't work in FF that I need to get to, and I hate having to launch a second browser.
