Doesn't matter if someone uses your info though. They send in completely fraudulent #'s, the IRS sends the monies...

They don't put 2 & 2 together until you send in your return later.

It is quite amazing in today's age when they basically already have all the data accumulated electronically that they will just process as-is first, then check later.

Last year the IRS paid out $3.3M in fraudulant claims to one single address here in Lansing, MI.

It's what happens when you have a berkeleying kick-ass accountant. Try as we may to end up paying a little at the end of the year, that motherberkeleyer finds the money. Paco won't be retiring on my check, but he could buy groceries for the month...if he didn't already have his goddamned "Peach Card."

I totally agree - Let me know if anyone needs a good (MI based) accountant. I still use him even though I'm out of state now. He got me through 10 years of s corp business (and my hack accounting methods). I have no idea what black magic he did but I never paid much out of pocket regardless of the $$ I was making. Never an audit, and if there was he would've represented me at no cost. As a guy who hates accounting & taxes, this was the piece of mind I needed.

I dunno about handling the audit with no charge, but yeah, this is me. It wasn't until we got a killer accountant that I realized our last 3 sucked ass. This guy was once comptroller for a MAJOR corporation in ATL. Now he's kind of semi-retired, and not really in it for the money, and he's got a great assistant who will one day take over the empire. As a special added bonus, he does enough business with me every year that we probably should just stop exchanging money for our services, as it usually ends up being close to a wash.

The part about the video I posted that really pissed me off wasn't so much the amount but how blatant the guy was to admit it on TV. There will probably never be a dollar recovered or a day spent in jail.
