Any of you ever see this before? This is totally not what I was searching for.
They sanitized it a little before syndication, but i believe Winston was a title sponsor of the show when it was initally broadcast. They didn't ban tobacco advertising on TV until the 70's, i remember seeing cigarette commercials on tv all the time when I was a kid in the early to mid 70's.

Watch the early episodes of The Muppet Show, pretty certain there was a high level of substance abuse at the Henson Studios.

Things did not get better.
If you are ever in Atlanta, check out the Center for Puppetry Arts. They have an entire wing dedicated to Jim Henson and many, many of the puppets on display.
He had a very odd and sometimes serious artistic side. He was always pushing puppetry into new spaces. The kids shows were part of it, but far from all of it. One of the early sketches on display is a psychedelic lounge/club that was wild, complete with dancers.
EDIT : and if adult level humor is your thing, check out the movie Happy Time Murders.
A year or so ago, they did a one-night-only showing of The Dark Crystal in the theater. It was like being 10 again.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
We've been to a couple of those showings. One year they hosted a Goblins Ball with a showing during Comic Con. We didn't make that one.

I'm old enough to have seen those Flintstone commercials when they first ran on TV. Winston was also a big sponsor of the Beverly Hillbillies, you can find those ads on YouTube as well - Granny and Jed sitting around the kitchen table and smoking away. "Winston tastes good, like a cigarette had oughta."
I don't specifically recall the Flintstones spot, but as an old fart, it is interesting to see just how profoundly times have changed.
Smoking was stylish and ubiquitous right up through the 70's, but by the late 80's, there was a popular push to limit smoking in public. The 90's saw a lot of laws limiting smoking in public places (thankfully).
I believe that liquor and cigarette commercials made up a significant percentage of all television commercials in the 70's.
I have seen the Fred and Barney ad, not when it first aired though. I remember seeing a huge (30ft?) tall inflatable pack of Winstons at the infield of MIS in the mid 80's. Back when NASCAR had real sponsers. Beer, booze and tobacco y'all!

OMG... I am embarrassed to admit I still know all the lyrics to the H.R. Puffinstuff theme song!
I generally sing it only when I am trying to frighten my children.

THAT is some dark muppetry. I still cannot/will not watch that nightmare fuel again.
Fun trivia: as I recall it was the first feature film not starring any people.

Hmmmm. That bit about being the first feature to not star any people does sound familiar. I'm sure the answer is out there somewhere.
