Anybody seen the add for a book on how to build a perpetual motion generator, also called a motor. Powered by magnets. Says the oil companies bought up all the patents..

Perpetual motion is largely a myth, due to the fact that no one's been able to figure out how to get more energy out than they have to put in.
Patents be damned -- if there was any such thing as free electricity, North Korea wouldn't be dark at night.
It's called the Johnson Motor. For $47 the book will tell you how to build one. The calling it a motor was the first clue.

Oh, no. Newton was all wrong. You just need that book, some magnets and some elbow grease! I got mine from the ad next to the one for X-Ray glasses and sea monkeys in the back of Action Comics.

There's this thing called Thermodynamics... It's a total bitch.

Quality post.

Laws are made to be broken. Duh.

Actually gravity powered, by the moon.
I was in the apartment hot tub a while back and a guy was convinced that an inventor had developed a way to get multiple horsepower for a long time out of a few 9V batteries. It was a newman motor. Apparently you can convert copper directly into electricity

That's the laws of man. Laws of nature aren't to be trifled with.

Hess, these aren't traffic laws...
Marge: I'm worried about the kids, Homey. Lisa's becoming very obsessive. This morning I caught her trying to dissect her own raincoat.
Homer: [scoffs] I know. And this perpetual motion machine she made today is a joke! It just keeps going faster and faster.
Marge: And Bart isn't doing very well either. He needs boundaries and structure. There's something about flying a kite at night that's so unwholesome. [looks out window]
Bart: [creepy voice] Hello, Mother dear.
Marge: [closing the curtains] That's it: we have to get them back to school.
Homer: I'm with you, Marge. Lisa! Get in here. [Lisa walks in, chuckling nervously] In this house, we obey the laws of thermodynamics!

That's what I was thinking.

Looks legit.
Seriously though. If it worked, and the plans were right there on the internet, everybody - from the Iranians to PETA to the Mythbusters - would be all over this ish.
