Oh you said car.. There isn't one.

They started having issues again when they started adding touchscreens to control HVAC and stuff.
As Curtis mentioned, a lot of the V8 XJs get parked because the ZF transmission craps out, so look for a supercharged V8 to get the Mercedes transmission. That transmission handles the 730lb-ft Mercedes twin turbo V12s for hundreds of thousands of miles without a problem (aside from a widely documented and easily fixed oil drip from an o-ring).
that's very interesting since that is when they were owned by ford (1990 to 2009).

Ford spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Jaguar improving quality and implementing modern production methods. Plus much much more trying to win Formula 1 using the Jaguar name. Only to cut and run with the down turn of the economy in 2008 to the benefit of Tatra.
Wisely Tatra has kept value up and not cheapened the cars since taking ownership.

And yet somehow, under Tatra, the Jaguar brand's reliability rating has fallen through the floor.
Edit: Eh, maybe it's Volvo I'm thinking of.

The Jaguar always has had the heaviest duty automatic transmission available. Until Ford bought the company it was GM trans either the Turbo 400 or the overdrive version of the turbo 400. Not the passenger car version but the HD one found in ambulances and tow trucks. Well from about 1953 the old cast Iron six had the Borg Warner designed for full sized Buick’s, Oldsmobile’s, Packards, and Studebaker’s of the 50’s beloved by drag racers for its rugged reliability and ease of modification. (Neck snapping shifts was a simple matter)That same transmission continued right up to the end of the Iron engine. It was also briefly used in V12 Jaguars from 1971- to mid 1977.
With the advent of the All aluminum 6 Jaguar switched to ZF transmissions which was a mixed blessing. While it shifted sportier, it wouldn’t take the abuse the GM transmissions did and it was massively more expensive to overhaul.
How'd you even find this thread to reply to from back in November.
Well, I'm buying a 2001 Jaguar XJR, so I'm going to personally find out how reliable that one is..... Stay tuned. I pick it up 7 days from now.

That is awesome news, sir! I am on the edge of my seat and will remain there until you provide an update!

Started the build thread before I even take possession. I'm super excited.
Oh Deer! It's a Jaaag. '01 XJR
Sepcat made a good one. Hauled a lot. Pretty fast. Didn't fall out of the sky and leave the pilot stranded.

Well, both actually. If we're actually using jd power data for real dependability metrics, then both Jaguar and Volvo are bottom 75%ers. Land Rover ISNT last!!!

Also, didn't I read somewhere recently that jaguar posted like a $3 billion loss in 2018? That alone feels like not a great thing for tata.
