The Leatherman is actually what I was thinking of. I always have a Leatherman on my belt. Hey, Apexcarver, you don't already have a Leatherman, do you?
I got mine Zippos.
Recent ones in my family have included giant thumb drives, go pro cameras, motorcycle safety course tuition coupons, engraved mag lights, and mp3 players.

I like the zippo idea
The Zippo idea sounds cool, but if people don't smoke, they might not keep it filled, and fuel evaporates out of Zippos fairly quickly. I agree with the pocketknife or flask idea.
They are all drinkers...
So beer mugs, cocktail glasses, or shot glasses.
Good ones.
Heck, if they all liked whiskey, I'd spend the $$ on single malt scotch glasses- they are $25. Much better than a tumbler when drinking neat.
I once received a nice giant gerber machete and a case of beer.
By far the coolest gift ever. Not exactly the most useful, but walking to my car with a machete in one hand and case of beer in the other made me feel like a superhero.
My groomsmen all liked the leathermen I got them, and they all still carry them (at least in their cars).. I got a Zippo for the last wedding I was in. I gave it to my mom (who smokes). I don't smoke, and neither did any of the other groomsmen, I don't believe any of us have the zippos anymore. In fact, haven't seen my mom use it in a year or so, either..
Another reason me and the wife went to Vegas and only told immediate family (moms and dads), "You can show up if you want to, we don't care."
Credit card bottle opener. $0.69 ea. I got one at a Christmas grab bag party last year. Fits in the wallet or money clip. It gets used more often than it ought to.

Engine parts are always nice.
Engraving just a name seems strange to me. Any other suggestions as to what to put on a shirt, flask, knife, etc?
In reply to PHeller:
One of the knives that lives in my change bowl I mentioned earlier is one of these Swiss Army "original military edition" knives with my initials engraved on the side of the big cutting blade. Nothing fancy, just a serif block font and the 4 characters that are my initials.
I have a money clip & stein with my initials engraved as well, so initials instead of actual name seems to be the norm.
I have received a 1L beer mug with an engraved medallion on the side.
I have gifted a smaller metal plated mug with engraved medallion.
One of the best gifts I ever got was a beer mug with my last initial ("P") on it. It was a big, hefty mug, which I dropped the night of the wedding, out in the parking lot, and it made a dent in the asphalt. The couple split up years ago, but I still have that mug.
How many groomsmen? you said 5 I believe... get them similar priced, but individually selected by you gifts... ( you can spend more on gramps if you like...
if that doesn't work.....
Get each a portrait of Ulysses S Grant

"I got the crabs at Joe's Crab Shack"??
A name is fine. Don't overthink it.
It's just a token of your appreciation for their effort and participation, with a little bit of class.

Best thing I've read all day.
I'm getting married next year and thinking about getting my groomsmen either opinel or Swiss Army knives along with small bottles of individualized booze.
