The wife just took my daughter out to the shop to teach her how to use the table saw and drill press.  They are building a raccoon proof cat door.  Raccoon has found his way into the house twice in the last week.  First night he ate a basket of candy and the cats food.  Second time he ate 3 dozen crickets slated for the skinks next meal, and the cats food.  Wife rejected my plan of hanging strips of Gorilla tape just inside the cat door.  Had the ipad all set up and ready to film on motion activation, and about 20 strips of tape hanging from fishing line.

How do you raccoon proof a cat door?

Apparently there are some magnetic cat doors that only open when they sense a microchip (the type your vet might install).

I've got a neighbor who should really install on of these. I'm getting tired of her cat stairing in my window from the porch all day.

They made a sliding door to go in front of the door that swings.  The original door was transparent and it had a lock.  We have been locking it at night, but the cat keeps smacking his head on it when its locked.  They are afraid the cat will run into it full speed one of these nights and break his neck.  The slider door is made from PVC sheet.  Cat can see he can't go thru now.  As long as somebody remembers to close the slider at night, the raccoon can't come in.  I'm sure it won't be more than a few days before it gets forgotten and the coon will come back in the house.  Then I get to try out my deterrent system.

Based on the time my cat got caught in a fly strip...

Fly strips hung on the cat door would be comedy gold.

No, that is when my blue heeler had his paw on a sticky rat trap running around the house with a live mouse on it....
