We sat for HOURS just south of Gainesville on the way back from Tampa a few years ago. I think it was just past the 39th ave exit (challenge hotel.) There's a small hill (it's florida.) A very severe, but quick moving storm came through. One guy lost it, people coming over the hill didn't see him. Total berkeleying yard sale. That sucked. Middle of summer, no AC in the truck. We weren't dead though, which was nice.

You'd imagine in state that constantly has rain people would know how to drive in it. Quite the contrary. It still dumbfounds me that people will slam their brakes as soon as a drop of rain hits their windshield almost causing a pile up. Or the driving 20mph under the speed limit on a 35mph road in a small drizzle with their hazards on.

Southeastern Florida is a whole nother story. People there just don't know how to drive in general.

My theory: we all watch NASCAR on TV. We see them doing 165mph all inches from each other.

So we do the same on the interstates; drive 80mph inches apart. Airbags, ABS brakes, AWD, traction control.....what's the problem?

Fact: Most people who live in Florida came here from somewhere else.

it's like that up here in MN, except with snow instead of rain... but people also don't know how to drive in rain, either.. some people seem to have problems when the sun is out, too..

In reply to ProDarwin:

I took the scenic route around that on my way to Gainesville to pick up a Miata motor after I left the GRM 24hours of Daytona tent that morning.
