A while ago someone posted about the childrens book "Go the F*ck to Sleep".

Well Audible.com has the audio book format.

Who is the Narrator you ask?

None other than Samuel L. Jackson.

You can actually download it for free right now.

Listened to it earlier, pretty funny. Seems appropriate as the wife is trying to put our 2 year old to bed right now.

See, the trick isn't to read. It's to play music. I had either the Blues Brothers or Def Leppard. Like taking a poleax to them.

This is funny. Warning, it's a smidge profane.

I more envision Lewis CK as the proper narrator.

There's already a movie deal: the author announced it on the Today show last week.

Louis CK is one of the best stand up comics out there, he speaks the truth.

I have a feeling Sam Jackson just does whatever the hell he wants to do these days. I mean, he played MLK on Broadway.

They really should do this version. Samuel L Jackson is still perfect for it:

Julius: Your pardon; did I break thy concentration? Continue! Ah, but now thy tongue is still. Allow me, then, to offer a retort. Describe Marsellus Wallace to me, pray.

Brett: What?

Julius: What country dost thou hail from?

Brett: What?

Julius: Thou sayest thou dost hail from distant What! I know but naught of thy strange country What. What language speak they in the land of What?

Brett: What?

Julius: English, base knave, dost thou speak it?

Brett: Aye!

Julius: Then hearken to my words and answer them! Describe to me Marsellus Wallace!

Brett: What? (JULIUS presses his knife to BRETT's throat)

Julius: Speak 'What' again! Thou cur, cry 'What' again! I dare thee utter 'What' again but once! I dare thee twice and spit upon thy name! Now, paint for me a portraiture in words, If thou hast any in thy head but 'What', Of Marsellus Wallace!

Brett: He is dark.

Julius: Aye, and what more?

Brett: His head is shaven bald.

Julius: Hath he the semblance of a harlot?

Brett: What? (JULIUS strikes with his blade and BRETT cries out)

Julius: Hath he the semblance of a harlot?

Brett: Nay!

Julius: Then why didst thou attempt to bed him thus?

Brett: I did not!

Julius: Aye, thou didst! O, aye, thou didst! Thou sought to rape him like a chattel whore! And sooth, Lord Wallace is displeased to bed With aught save Lady Wallace, whom he wed.

I just laughed my ass off at that. I think 'harlot' is just an inherently funny word.

I've never actually seen Pulp Fiction (even though thanks to the internet I can quote many lines of it from memory)... The fact that it has Travolta in it kind of put me off. I think I really should watch it though, I've put up with him in other movies and still enjoyed them.

Harlot harlot harlot.

Not bad. A classic, in fact.

I find that book offensive, but then again it appears I'm a little "off" from the norm here....

All of the GRM parents with Children under 6 seemed to like this book (at least the idea of it...) quite a bit. My kids are too old for bedtime stories, but almost old enough for the salty language.

The big problem is the further it goes the less funny it gets, really. By the end it's not funny anymore and you're listening to get to the end. You see the title and think "This'll be funny", by the end you're thinking "This guy has serious issues."

I think I posted the original link.

Some kids (like mine) just don't want to go to bed. No matter how strong the routine, how long we tried to tire them out at the park, whatever, they're going to fight it. The fact that my wife and I are staying up (because we want some kid-free time) means that something interesting might be happening and they might miss it.

Thoughts like these go through our heads starting at around 22:00. Keep in mind we don't say anything in this vein to our kids, but I think it's human nature to think them.

I certainly understand the thought behind it (and I'm sure I'll have similar ones soon...), but I still think that sort of language is foul, crass and unbecoming of a gentleman.

Some members of this community (and every other) fit those adjectives. I applaud you for holding yourself to a higher standard.
