I'm looking at buying a 4th generation GMC 4x4 and looking for more info on this specific series. I've found a bunch of forums for the newer trucks and a bunch for GMC or Chevy in general but that includes all the SUVs etc. So far the most complete info I have found has been on wikipedia and its just ok.
Can anyone recommend a good forum for the 1988-1998 K series trucks?
Note I'm not expecting the GRM experience at any other forum, I'm just looking for more info.

Not a GM guy, but I've noticed while searching the Ford truck forums, you can find far superior information from GRM members, so I'd suggest posting questions here before moving to other sources. (yes I read the bottom of your post, but just putting it out there.)
FSC is a joke....
I agree, 67-72 is probably the best and most tolerate truck site for those trucks. I troll over there for the old squarebody mostly....
gmt400.com has some decent information. Majority of it's user base are off-roading or lowering.
I spent a lot of time on FSC. Signal to noise wasn't great, but there were a few people who knew their stuff, and the info should all still be there.

Very good signal to noise on the Pac Audio site, they were the really bleeding edge guys in terms of Chevy Truck performance.

My question is this, the truck I am supposed to look at is listed as needing a "steering assist sensor". I looked on Napa, Rockauto and some other parts places but I can't find anything like that listed for the truck. I'm just trying to figure out what that is. Truck is a 98 GMC K-1500.
Probably a dealer part which means $$$. Salvage yard may be a good bet.

There is a lot of good info there, they are very strict about not allowing any mention of selling anything except by members who donate to the board and in specific for sale forums though. I stopped reading it long before I got rid of my chevy trucks because it got pretty annoying.

True. I was a donating member for a while for that reason.
Also, don't go into the paint forums. Ever. For anything.
I went to the paint forum. I saw nothing.
I may have been too busy laughing at the ads on a GM forum telling me to make the jump to Toyota for me to notice anything particularly off though.
Search for the EVO Valve for the steering. I think I found it in Rock Auto under:

dj06482, thanks that seems to look like the same thing that was suggested on the 69-72 truck forum.
Now, what does it do?
To me, it sounds like it would be needed for QuadraSteer.
Damn double post from the failure of IT.
The EVO valve gives you speed sensitive steering, very light at parking lot speeds, and normal effort as speeds increase (think highway). There are a bunch of articles and posts on how to disable it, though.
When it's working it works well, but it can cause annoying issues when the sensor goes.
new to this page and forum, but i currently have a 94 gmc sierra c\k 1500, the bodys in rough condition and i want to buy like a 96-99 gmc/chev body and frame in good condition and swap the axles and such from my 94 to a 96-99 gm or chev body, basically build myself a new truck from two parts trucks. I realise the engines are different due to the switch to vortec in 96 but im not too sure on everything else. any info is helpfull, thanks!
