I've seen numerous coyotes and never felt threatened. They seemed to be very intent on avoiding me.
I did get threatened by a pack of feral dogs once. Fortunately I had been warned about them by the gentleman on whose land I was deer hunting at the time.
Hmm, keep them away from your dynamite or rockets. If they look to be building anything, sneak up behind them and honk a horn....
Got Coyotes at my place in metro Atl. All they need is a suply of food (small game, small domestic cats, small livestock like chicken or rabbits) and water. We have many flowing streams and ponds.
I used to rabbit and squirel hunt to stock the freezer but the bunnys are scarce with the encrochement of coyotes. Whenever I am out and about I carry a side arm. A .40cal S-W round will stop them in their tracks.
We have two cats that love to sit on the screened porch. They throw a fit to get in when the coyotes are out. I'm waiting for a very hungry coyote to try and get thru the screen.
Anyone here remember the prostitute organisation back in the '70s? Named COYOTE, I think that was an acronym for cast off your old tired ethics.

Depends entirely on shot placement. Head shot, done. Other placement, well, maybe, but it might take a while. Yote in a trap, easy head shot with a 22. Yote out running, damn near impossible, but a 8mm Mauser would do a number on them with a body shot.
We use a .270 'round these parts. Hitting them on the run is how you let people know you practice a lot.
