There has been a lot of talk about privacy issues online lately. On the radio this morning, they were complaining about Google profiling you and providing you with target ads. TARGETED ADS?!?!? OMG!!!
For me, I keep private stuff that I don't want other people to know off the computer and off the internet. So what am I missing here? Who cares if Google knows what I like to eat and that I like cars?
Disconnect on Firefox FTW.
It's not the targeted ads, it's the ads. Just geting ads. Whatever I can do to reduce the banners and crap that is on my screen and slows things down, I will do.
Targeted ads mean that more information has to be passed. that slows things down.
Besides, one problem with targeted ads is that you may be shown paid sponsors that are kind of match your search, as opposed to non-paid sponsors that may provide a better job at what you want.
Search hamburger, and you may get McDonalds, but not Blimpy Burger (if you are local to Ann Arbor, that's relevant).
It goes a lot deeper than just knowing. They fully control what is being presented to you, too.

what bothers me about it is when stuff that is relevant only to my gchat conversation starts popping up in the targeted ads...even thought they say they don't look at that text.
