The tires are leased? That seems odd to me. What are the residual values on tires? Is there an active market for used bus tires? Seems to me that it would be a saftey issues? I guess like semi tires, they could be re-treaded? Are semi tires leased?

For some reason leased tires are very popular with bus companies. I don't know why. As part of it we have a guy from Goodyear who takes the worn out tires and cuts a few worthless groves inthe and puts them on the back. This gets repeated until they are paper thin and get flattened by a twig. On the bright side the are very safe in snow, since you will never get enough traction to move.
