Several years ago I decided that my introduction to welding would be to weld a gate for my backyard. It held up much longer than I expected it to, but in a recent storm the welds to one of the gates broke.

The issue is that I can't get the lower hinge to come apart in order to reweld it to the gate. The pin is attached to the top part of the hinge, that small gap is all the progress I've made with about 2 hours of effort. Initially I was putting a flathead screwdriver on it and trying to strike upwards, but I couldn't generate much force from that angle, plus it's relatively close to the ground.

Currently I'm thinking of drilling progressively larger holes through the bottom, putting a metal rod in there and then getting my floor jack under it to pop it out from underneath. Any other clever ideas?

Sawzall with torch blade, 6" grinder with cutting disc, or whatever you have available and cut the whole thing off the post then grind post flat. Rebuild or replace hinge.

Air hammer. Or heat. Or both. A jack will just bend stuff.
