Anyone else a UFC or boxing fan?
I've been training BJJ and kickboxing for the last year or so. Anyone else here like to roll?

I'm a MMA fan, and have been threatening to enroll in BJJ almost as long as I threatened to pick up a welder. Took me 30 years to make *that* move.

I kept putting it off through the Navy and then starting school. I was finally like, fudge it, there's never an ideal time.
I'm a fan and did some combat sports when I was younger.
Every time I reconsider getting back into it, the cost comes into mind. No, not the cost of gym fees, I'm talking about the odds of my twice repaired knee or one of my other long term injuries getting re-injured.
Been in combat sports since childhood. Started BJJ in 2013. Did wrestling since middle school and coached highschool 2015-2017. Muay Thai from 2007-2013. Lately, I haven't been doing a lot. Looking for a new place to do BJJ since I moved here. Might start at Capital MMA. We'll see what my back has to say lol

I mean, if you go and spar, tell your partner, and tap early, it can be pretty low impact. I've sparred with guys who have pins in their ankles, reconstructed hips, etc etc.
I'm actually out of the game for another month because I had an OSHA moment and crushed my toe last week. Not being able to roll or hit a bag is killing my soul.
Anyone here watch ONE Championship? I'm thinking about subscribing to them instead of having to go through Disney to get to UFC.
I've been getting into M1 when I can find it to watch. Knight fighting, armor, swords, shields. Different.
I hit 50 recently so I'm going to go with I have old man strength plus I have the redneckness in me to just kick you in the nuts.
I love it. I do not get to watch either much.
I geek out on both on youtube sometimes. Recently I was forced to second shift and got into Mike Tyson fights pretty hard for a couple nights. Animal.
I wrestled on the same team as Kurt Angle back in HS, 115 class to his heavyweight class though.
I lived up in N. Conway, NH for a while and bought a guy a beer at a little locals bar, then I realized he was the guy in the boxing pictures that hung on the wall there. Had a couple drinks and a great talk with Marvin Hagler. Damn cool.

How'd you like NH? I lived in VT for a few years. Loved the country and the people, hated the government. I'm trying to convince the girlfriend NH is paradise but I'm working against her being raised in the rain forest.
I've got nothing but respect for boxing. When i started with kickboxing, I watched a lot of Tyson and, my favorite, Emanuel Augustus and was just blown away.
I did a muay thai session with Kru Bob Perez at my local gym and he said when they win in Thailand, it's because of their boxing. No one does like the Americans, apparently.

I love NH. I mean with "Live Free or Die" as the state motto, how can you go wrong.
People will always bring up the property taxes, and we are something like 4th in the country for that. Yet I have seen studies that put NH as 47th for total tax burden. With no income tax and relatively light cooked meal tax and hotel tax it really is not bad. Easily as beautiful as VT.
I lived up in Burlington, VT for a while and it was not bad, but give me the 603 any day.
That said in 8-10 years we will be in TN, mostly because we have grown out of winter fun and would prefer a "storm" of 3" of snow rather than a storm of 3'.

I kinda want to get into HEMA (Historic European Martial Arts). Sword fighting is cool. No need to pretend that wanting to hit on people is anything more than a fun hobby.
I've got enough hobbies eating up my time though.
Even if you're not into MMA, I absolutely love listening to Chael Sonnen's youtube channel. That guy could read a phone book and make it fascinating.

I am not a fan of MMA. I have worked enough of those specticals to refer to them as "hug fests" as that is what always seems to happen. The two fighters wind up against the cage wrestling each other. I know it may be grueling, but it's not fun to watch.
To be fair, I do not like blood sports in the first place, but watching MMA is way down on the list.
I think a person does need a fundamental knowledge of grappling to appreciate it. Even a lot of people who consider themselves mma fans really don't get it.
In reply to Racebrick :
Training yourself turns watching MMA into watching a chess match.
It also makes you insufferable when you're spectate with people who don't train.

I'm a little bit north of the big 6 - 0. For me, it's more about looking for hairs in my beard that AREN'T white. And my training for MMA will have to be postponed yet again. This weekend, whilst throwing a few games of cornhole at the rivah, I fatigued the muscles in my left hip. When I got up to pee in the middle of the night, I could hardly put weight on it.
It does feel better today, and sure, cornhole is a bit more strenuous than MMA, but still.... I will need to take it slowly.
I've been looking into Kendo myself, but a recent temporary work re-assignment has me rethinking.
Will probably sign up for Kendo later in the year/next year.
I stopped watching UFC in bars on purpose a while ago just because it's so brutal listening to the dumb stuff people say. In my experience, most guys think they are both awesome drivers, and great fighters while usually being garbage at both.

Preach. I remember watching a semi-pro fight here in College Station at Reed Arena. Somebody kept telling "knee em'! Throw a knee!" every time the fight stalled against the fence for more than 2 seconds.
This lead to everyone (myself included) yelling "knee! Kneeeeeee!" at every opportunity just to pester the guy.
